Veterinary Technician

Essential Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians and other technicians with patient care and treatment.
• Communicate effectively with veterinarians, team members, and clients regarding patient plans and concerns.
• Safely handle and restrain animals during exams and procedures.
• Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments a directed by the veterinarian.
• Assist with surgical procedures, including preparation, anesthesia monitoring, and postoperative care.
• Monitor and document the condition of hospitalized patients.
• Perform and process diagnostic imaging (X-rays).
• Prepare and dispense prescriptions accurately.
• Collect and process samples (blood, stool, urine, etc.) for in-house and reference laboratory testing.
• Educate clients on veterinary care, treatment plans, and preventive health practices.
• Maintain accurate and detailed electronic medical records
• Clean and maintain exam rooms, surgery suites, laboratory areas, medical equipment, and pharmacy.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Previous veterinary experience preferred.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds independently and over 25 pounds with assistance.
• Knowledge and adherence to OSHA safety protocols and proper use of PPE.
• Proficiency in basic math and medication dosage calculations.
• Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills to ensure patient safety.
• Availability to work weekends as required.
