Veterinary Technician – Job DescriptionPosition Summary

The Veterinary Technician supports veterinarians in providing high-quality medical care to animals by assisting with examinations, diagnostic procedures, treatments, surgical procedures, and patient monitoring. This role is responsible for delivering compassionate animal care, maintaining accurate medical records, and ensuring a safe, clean, and efficient clinical environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians with physical examinations, diagnostic testing, treatments, and medical procedures.
• Obtain and record patient histories, vital signs, and other relevant clinical information.
• Safely restrain and handle animals during examinations and procedures.
• Collect and prepare laboratory samples, including blood, urine, and fecal specimens.
• Perform or assist with diagnostic procedures, including radiography and in-house laboratory testing, as permitted by applicable regulations.
• Prepare patients for surgery, assist during surgical procedures, and monitor patients during anesthesia and recovery.
• Administer medications and treatments as directed by the veterinarian and within the scope of applicable laws and regulations.
• Monitor hospitalized patients and communicate changes in their condition to the veterinary team.
• Educate clients on medication administration, preventive care, nutrition, and post-treatment instructions.
• Maintain accurate patient records and document treatments, procedures, and clinical observations.
• Clean, disinfect, and maintain examination rooms, treatment areas, surgical equipment, and medical instruments.
• Follow established protocols for infection control, patient safety, medical waste disposal, and workplace safety.
• Collaborate with veterinarians, veterinary assistants, and other team members to ensure efficient patient care and positive client experiences.

Qualifications and Skills

• Veterinary Technician degree, diploma, or equivalent training as required for the position.
• Knowledge of animal anatomy, physiology, common medical conditions, and veterinary nursing procedures.
• Proficiency in animal handling, restraint, patient monitoring, and basic clinical techniques.
• Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
• Compassion for animals and a commitment to patient welfare and client service.
• Ability to perform physical duties, including standing for extended periods and safely lifting or restraining animals when necessary.

Work Environment

This position operates in a veterinary clinic or animal hospital and may involve exposure to animals, infectious materials, medications, cleaning agents, and other clinical hazards. Employees are expected to work every other weekend.

Pay: $16.00 - $22.00 per hour
