Job Summary
Certified Veterinary Technician - Exotic Animal Care
Ness Exotic Wellness Center - Lisle, IL
Ness Exotic Wellness Center is seeking a Certified Veterinary Technician to support our doctors, clients, and exotic
animal patients in a specialized exotic and holistic veterinary practice.
We are not a typical dog-and-cat general practice. Our team provides high-quality care for avian and exotic pets,
including small mammals, birds, reptiles, backyard fowl, and other unique companion animals. We also offer
integrative and holistic care, advanced diagnostics, surgery, pain management, and client education for patients
whose needs are often complex and highly individualized.
The CVT will partner with veterinarians and the management team to ensure appointments run smoothly, patients
are handled safely, records are accurate, prescriptions and treatments are completed correctly, and clients receive
clear home-care and follow-up instructions.
What You Will Do
Support veterinarians during appointments, diagnostics, treatments, surgery, anesthesia monitoring, recovery,
and discharges.
Collect and document accurate patient histories, weights, clinical observations, client conversations, and follow-
up instructions.
Use calm, safe, species-appropriate handling for exotic and non-traditional companion animals.
Prepare, clean, stock, and maintain exam rooms, treatment areas, surgical materials, and equipment.
Assist with lab procedures, venipuncture, IV catheter placement, fluids, wound prep, bandaging, vital signs, and
patient monitoring within scope and supervision requirements.
Fulfill prescriptions, calculate dosages accurately, and track controlled drugs according to hospital policy.
Communicate doctor-approved medication instructions, home care, and follow-up guidance to clients.
Help maintain a respectful, calm, organized, and learning-oriented team environment.
What We Need
Current Illinois CVT credential if using the title Certified Veterinary Technician, Veterinary Technician, Vet Tech,
Technician, CVT, or VT.
Strong math, documentation, client-communication, and patient-care skills.
Ability to follow veterinarian orders, work within legal scope, and escalate uncertainty quickly.
Comfort working with exotic pets and willingness to learn Ness-specific handling, flow, and client-education
expectations.
Reliability, professionalism, attention to detail, and ability to manage competing priorities in a busy clinic.
Nice to Have
Experience in exotic, avian, reptile, wildlife, zoo, emergency, specialty, integrative, or high-complexity
veterinary care.
Strong anesthesia monitoring, surgery support, recovery, pharmacy, and controlled-drug experience.
Experience with Avimark or similar veterinary practice-management software.
Interest in holistic, integrative, or alternative care models.
Ability to help train newer assistants or less experienced team members.
Other offers great for you!
