What they need

The School of Veterinary Science (SVS) is seeking to appoint a Veterinary Work Integrated Learning Coordinator to join our team in supporting the oversight of BVSc student work-integrated learning (clinical and non-clinical placements external to the university). This position will be working remotely (based from home) with a requirement to travel within New Zealand to contracted placement providers and to the Manawatu campus at times. This is a permanent appointment with the hours of work being negotiable but would suit someone looking for part-time work.

Mo tenei turanga mahi | About the role

In this pivotal role, you will work closely with veterinary practices that support the clinical training of Bachelor of Veterinary Science (BVSc) students. You will help ensure students receive a high-quality learning experience during their clinical placements by maintaining strong relationships with partner practices, supporting teaching and assessment standards, and providing guidance to both students and supervisors. You will also play a key role in coordinating and administering Veterinary Work Integrated Learning (WIL) courses, ensuring placements run smoothly and accreditation requirements are met.

More specifically, you will:

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with contracted veterinary practices, ensuring the effective delivery of BVSc5 clinical training and promptly addressing any issues that arise.
  • Support and train practice staff in the teaching and assessment of veterinary students, while promoting continuous improvement in the student learning experience.
  • Provide guidance and support to students throughout their Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placements, including responding to feedback and managing expectations of students and placement providers.
  • Monitor and support compliance with BVSc programme requirements, accreditation standards, University policies, and relevant legislative and ethical obligations.
  • Coordinate Veterinary Work Integrated Learning courses, working closely with academic and administrative staff to manage course information, student queries, and results.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of the veterinary programme through professional development, collaboration, and representation of the School at relevant sector events and activities.

Mou | About you

We're looking for someone with:

  • A veterinary professional degree, e.g., BVSc, DVM, VMD etc. that enables full registration with the Veterinary Council of New Zealand (generally from an AVBC, RCVS or AVMA CoE-accredited school).
  • Full drivers licence essential.
  • Experience with New Zealand veterinary clinical practice, ideally including rural mixed practice.
  • Previous teaching or training experience in a higher education setting is desirable.

Ko nga hua o te turanga? | What's in it for you?

You'll join a collaborative, innovative team that provide world-class veterinary training; Massey's veterinary programme is ranked highest in Asia and Australasia and is ranked #14 in the world in the latest QS rankings.

You will also receive up to 6.75% employer contribution to the UniSaver Superannuation Scheme, five university holidays each year in addition to annual leave and a subsidised Southern Cross Healthcare plan for you and your whanau.

The salary will be commensurate with qualification and experience but will be in the range of Professional Clinician/Senio Professional Clinician ($86,113 - $152,712).
