About the Role

Seeking a highly skilled and strategic Vice President, Senior Database Administrator to lead the architecture, operational management, and evolution of our enterprise database platforms.

This is a critical "Player/Coach" leadership role. We are looking for a hands-on technical expert who can actively engineer solutions while simultaneously managing a 15-person third-party DBA team (comprising both onsite and offshore resources). As we pivot toward Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and modern DevOps practices, you will drive the reliability, security, and scalability of our mission-critical data systems across on-premises and cloud environments.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned technical leader with deep expertise in Oracle and Snowflake, who thrives in a collaborative, high-performance environment and values long-term organizational commitment.

Key Responsibilities

• Strategic & Hands-On Leadership: Provide deep, hands-on expertise across enterprise database platforms, with a primary emphasis on Oracle and Snowflake, while guiding the overall database strategy.
• Team & Vendor Management: Lead, mentor, and manage a 15-person DBA contract staff (ITC/MSP), comprising a small onsite team and a majority offshore team in India. Establish SLAs, operational procedures, and performance metrics.
• DevOps & Automation: Drive the transition to Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps methodologies. Partner with Cloud Engineering to implement automation, CI/CD integration, and platform observability.
• Platform Engineering: Architect and maintain high availability (HA), disaster recovery (DR), and performance tuning strategies for complex multi-platform ecosystems (OLTP and analytics).
• Cloud & Hybrid Operations: Lead database deployments across cloud platforms, including AWS RDS, OCI Autonomous Database, Snowflake, and hybrid architectures.
• Security & Compliance: Ensure all database platforms meet enterprise security, audit, and regulatory requirements. Collaborate with cybersecurity teams on vulnerability management and access governance.
• Operational Excellence: Drive the automation and standardization of database operations, developing proactive monitoring and alerting practices to improve overall system reliability.

Required Qualifications

• Location: Must be able to work onsite in Stamford, CT 4 days per week. (Candidates residing in the NY tri-state area will be considered, but proximity to Stamford is strongly preferred).
• Experience: 10+ years of progressive database administration experience in enterprise environments. (Note: This is a senior, hands-on role; we are seeking an active technical leader rather than a purely administrative executive with 20+ years of experience).
• Core Technologies: Demonstrated, deep expertise in both Oracle and Snowflake (encompassing both DBA and Development).
• DevOps/IaC: Strong background in DevOps and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible, Jenkins) with proven experience automating database provisioning and CI/CD pipelines.
• Leadership: Proven experience managing distributed technical teams, specifically overseeing third-party vendor/MSP staff and offshore resources.
• Career Stability: A demonstrated track record of long-term tenure and commitment in previous roles.
• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Oracle Autonomous Database, AWS RDS, or large-scale cloud-native data platforms.
• Background supporting mission-critical, highly regulated, or financial services environments.
• Knowledge of data warehousing, analytics platforms, and modern data engineering patterns.
• Broader competency across additional relational and non-relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, Sybase, IBM DB2, MongoDB, Microsoft SQL Server).
