About YS School

YS School, Barnala, is one of the most progressive and innovative schools in Punjab, repeatedly recognized at National and International platforms for its contribution to 21st Century Skills, holistic education, and student-centric pedagogy. Affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), YS School has been a front-runner in blending academic excellence with co-curricular brilliance, preparing students for global citizenship.

Position Overview

The Vice Principal (Skills and Growth) will serve as the second-in-command to the Principal, responsible for ensuring smooth academic and administrative functioning of the school. This is a leadership role that demands visionary thinking, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to implement innovative practices in line with the school’s mission of nurturing future-ready learners.

Key Responsibilities

Scholar Skills & Holistic Development

  • Lead the development of a structured Skills & Growth framework across classes, focusing on communication, confidence, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, leadership and life skills.
  • Identify the skills required at different age groups and ensure their systematic development through classroom and experiential programmes.
  • Design and monitor initiatives that provide scholars with regular opportunities for public speaking, presentations, stage exposure, writing, entrepreneurship, innovation, leadership and teamwork.
  • Track individual scholar participation, progress and areas requiring further development.
  • Ensure that every scholar gets meaningful opportunities to participate, perform, create and showcase his/her abilities.

Parent & Prospective Parent Engagement

  • Take a lead role in building strong and meaningful relationships with existing parents and prospective parents.
  • Personally engage with prospective parents during school visits, counselling sessions, campus interactions and admission-related activities.
  • Understand parent expectations and communicate the school's philosophy, strengths, academic approach, skills programmes and unique offerings effectively.
  • Conduct regular parent interactions, workshops and orientation sessions focused on scholar development, parenting and future-ready skills.
  • Build confidence and trust among parents through regular communication, responsiveness and visible involvement.
  • Maintain systematic follow-up with prospective parents in coordination with the Admissions Team to support enquiry-to-admission conversion.

Student & Parent Connect

  • Develop a strong student-parent-school connect, particularly around scholar growth beyond academics.
  • Identify concerns raised by parents and scholars and coordinate with the relevant teams for timely resolution.
  • Regularly interact with scholars to understand their interests, aspirations, challenges and areas of growth.
  • Ensure parents receive meaningful updates on their child's skills, participation, achievements and overall development.

Exposure & Experiential Learning

  • Plan and drive opportunities for scholars to gain exposure beyond the classroom through competitions, workshops, educational visits, MUNs, public speaking, stage performances, entrepreneurship, community initiatives and external platforms.
  • Build partnerships and identify external platforms where scholars can participate and showcase their talent.
  • Ensure that activities are not merely event-based but have clear learning and skill-development outcomes.

Communication & Personality Development

  • Lead programmes for English communication, public speaking, presentation skills, vocabulary, articulation, confidence and personality development.
  • Identify scholars who require additional support in communication and confidence and ensure targeted interventions.
  • Encourage a culture where scholars are comfortable speaking, presenting, questioning and expressing their ideas.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of communication and personality-development programmes through regular assessments and presentations.

Faculty & Programme Coordination

  • Work closely with faculty and coordinators to ensure that skill development becomes part of everyday schooling, rather than remaining limited to special events.
  • Guide teachers on integrating communication, creativity, collaboration and critical thinking into regular classroom activities.
  • Monitor implementation of skill-based programmes and review outcomes regularly.
  • Conduct faculty presentations/reviews of skill initiatives, student participation and outcomes.

Institutional Growth & School Experience

  • Work closely with Management and the Principal to strengthen the overall parent and scholar experience at YS.
  • Contribute to initiatives that strengthen the school's reputation, visibility and distinctive positioning.
  • Support the Admissions and Marketing teams by highlighting and showcasing scholar achievements, skills, experiences and success stories.
  • Help create a school environment where parents can visibly experience the difference in their child's confidence, communication, skills and personality.

Key Performance Areas

The role should ideally be measured through:

  • Improvement in scholar communication and confidence.
  • Participation and achievement in competitions and external platforms.
  • Number and quality of skill-development initiatives.
  • Parent engagement and satisfaction.
  • Prospective-parent interactions and admission conversion support.
  • Scholar-wise tracking of skills and participation.
  • Quality and consistency of experiential learning.
  • Visible improvement in overall scholar personality and exposure.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Master’s Degree in Education or a related field; B.Ed. preferred/mandatory as per school requirements.
  • 8–10 years of experience in education, with 3–5 years in a leadership/coordination role.
  • Strong experience in student development, parent engagement, communication programmes and school initiatives.
  • Excellent understanding of school operations and the ability to work closely with academic, admissions and activity teams.

Skills & Competencies

  • Exceptional communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong parent counselling and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to connect naturally with children and understand their individual strengths.
  • High ownership, energy and initiative.

  • Ability to inspire scholars, teachers and parents.
  • Strong follow-up, documentation and outcome-tracking skills.
