Videographer

We are looking for a videographer with a sharp eye, strong editing instincts and a healthy enthusiasm for making things a little strange.

Open to full or part-time hours.

Idyllic is a strategy-led creative agency in New Plymouth. Our team builds brands, websites, campaigns and advertising for ambitious businesses across New Zealand and Australia. The work has to look brilliant, but it also has a job to do: catch attention, make people feel something and help our clients grow.

That is where you come in.

You will turn campaign ideas into video people remember. One week you might be shooting a polished brand story on location. The next, you could be making social reels involving eggs on eyeballs, cake in someone’s face or a deeply questionable set of false teeth.

You will always get to make fun stuff here. Sometimes elegant. Sometimes cinematic. Sometimes mildly unhinged. Usually all three.

What you will do

• Plan, shoot and edit video for paid advertising, social media, websites and brand campaigns.

• Turn creative concepts and scripts into finished work with a strong hook, clear story and purpose.

• Create short-form videos that earn attention quickly and still feel considered, not churned out.

• Work across the full production process: pre-production, lighting, sound, filming, editing, colour grading, music, graphics and delivery.

• Cut smart variations for different audiences, messages and platforms so our marketing team can test what performs.

• Direct clients and talent on set, including people who are not used to being in front of a camera.

• Collaborate with our marketers, designers and creative team from the first idea to the final export.

• Keep shoots organised, equipment cared for and files easy for the rest of the team to find.

If you can also take excellent stills or add motion graphics and animation to an edit, we would be especially pleased to meet you.

You might be our person if

• Your showreel proves you can shoot and edit, not just operate a camera.

• You understand advertising. A beautiful shot is lovely; a beautiful shot that makes someone act is better.

• You can find the story, pace an edit and know when to cut the bit you personally love because the work is stronger without it.

• You are confident with cameras, lighting and sound, and know how to get a good result without turning every shoot into a feature film.

• You are comfortable making work for vertical, square and landscape formats.

• You can take a creative idea seriously without taking yourself too seriously.

• You communicate well, meet deadlines and tell us early if something is going sideways.

• You are open to feedback and happy working closely with people from different creative disciplines.

• You care about the result for the client, not just whether the footage looks cool.

• Strong sound design and colour-grading skills.

• Open to travel to our other location in Napier.

Extra points for

• Photography you would happily put in your portfolio.

• Motion graphics, animation or compositing skills.

• The ability to storyboard or help shape a concept before shoot day.

• An oddly specific talent for sourcing odd props.

We are a team of strategists, designers, marketers, developers and video people who care a lot about the work and considerably less about looking serious while we make it.

You will have people around you to bounce ideas off, proper creative direction and a wide mix of projects,

We also have a yearly team retreat, because good teams need time together that is not attached to a client deadline. Expect laughs, stories and at least one moment that becomes studio folklore.

Idyllic is a Disruptive Design Studio based at 220 Devon Street East in New Plymouth. We start with strategy, then bring it to life through brand, web, marketing, design, photography and video.

We do not make things simply to decorate the internet. We make work that solves a business problem, gives the right people a reason to pay attention and refuses to look like everybody else.

We take our work seriously. Ourselves? Less so.
