What they need

Job Summary

vConstruct, a Pune-based Construction Technology company, is seeking a Modeler with strong structural steel detailing knowledge and hands-on experience using Tekla Structures. This role is responsible for independently developing accurate, coordinated, and fabrication-ready structural steel models and drawings for standard and moderately complex assignments while supporting project delivery, quality, and schedule objectives.

The Modeler works closely with Senior Modelers, Checkers, Project Leads, Engineers, and other project team members to interpret design requirements, coordinate model-based deliverables, resolve routine technical issues, and support effective project execution. The role also contributes to project documentation, change management, continuous improvement, and the development of consistent modelling practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret structural drawings, specifications, detailing standards, addendums, RFIs, reference models, and other project documents to understand design intent, material requirements, and modelling expectations.
  • Develop and update detailed 3D structural steel models using Tekla Structures, covering primary and secondary steel, connections, embeds, and miscellaneous steel such as stairs, handrails, and ladders, in accordance with project requirements and assigned scope.
  • Identify missing information, discrepancies, clashes, and potential constructability issues. Identify potential RFIs and raise it, support interpretation of RFI responses, and coordinate with Senior Modellers, Checkers, and project stakeholders to resolve issues in a timely manner.
  • Assist with task planning, internal schedules, and planned hours for assigned work, and coordinate progress against project milestones.
  • Apply project-specific modelling standards, numbering systems, templates, reports, and workflows consistently. Contribute to improving modelling procedures, checklists, templates, Tekla custom components, automated connections, and other productivity-enhancing practices.
  • Incorporate approved design revisions, RFI responses, and client comments into models and drawings. Support the assessment of modelling changes, preparation of change estimates where required, maintenance of change logs, and preparation of change-order documentation in coordination with project leadership.
  • Monitor assigned work against planned schedules and proactively communicate progress, technical challenges, risks, and potential delivery impacts to the appropriate project team members.
  • Perform self-checks and review assigned deliverables before submission. Address review comments, apply quality procedures, and work with Checkers and Senior Modellers to minimize errors, revisions, and downstream rework.
  • Create, review, and refine shop fabrication, and erection drawings, ensuring accuracy, constructability, and compliance with client requirements, company standards, and applicable industry practices.
  • Support submittal management by interpreting relevant specifications, customer requirements, check lists requirements, preparing or updating submittal logs, and tracking required documentation using established project management platforms. Prepare modelling reports and other documentation to support project coordination and decision-making.
  • Collaborate with Project Leads, Project Managers, Senior Modellers, Checkers, Engineers, and BIM/VDC teams to support coordinated delivery. Share lessons learned and assist junior team members when required.

What Success Looks Like

  • Accurate, coordinated, constructible, and fabrication-ready structural steel models and drawings.
  • Independent execution of standard and moderately complex modelling assignments within agreed schedules and planned hours.
  • Effective identification and resolution of routine modelling, coordination, and constructability issues, with appropriate escalation of complex matters.
  • High-quality deliverables with minimal avoidable revisions and downstream rework.
  • Effective support for project coordination, RFIs, design changes, submittals, and required documentation.
  • Proactive communication of progress, technical challenges, and potential delivery risks.
  • Consistent application of project standards, detailing practices, and quality processes.
  • Continuous improvement in modelling capability, productivity, and delivery efficiency.

Required Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline; equivalent relevant experience may also be considered.
  • 4-8 years of experience in structural steel detailing, including strong hands-on experience with Tekla Structures modelling.
  • Experience in structural steel 3D modelling, detailing, and drawing production.
  • Good understanding of structural steel fabrication, connections, and erection practices.
  • Working knowledge of AISC standards and U.S. structural steel detailing practices.
  • Ability to interpret structural drawings, specifications, shop requirements, RFIs, and other construction documents.

Technical Skills

  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Tekla Structures.
  • Structural steel 3D modelling and detailing.
  • Structural steel connections and constructability review.
  • Understanding of model validation, coordination, and quality review processes.
  • Familiarity with material take-offs, modelling reports, and detailing deliverables.
  • Knowledge of AISC standards, OSHA requirements relevant to the work, and U.S. detailing practices.
  • Familiarity with Tekla custom components, templates, and reports.
  • Understanding of BIM/VDC coordination and multidisciplinary workflows.
  • Working knowledge of Trimble Connect.
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam or similar review and markup tools.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience delivering U.S. structural steel detailing projects.
  • Familiarity with change tracking, submittal documentation, and project management platforms.
  • Knowledge of Tekla automation, custom components, templates, reports, and workflow optimization.
  • Familiarity with Revit, Navisworks, or other BIM/VDC platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to technical quality.
  • Ability to support junior team members when required.
  • A continuous improvement mindset focused on innovation, efficiency, and quality.
