About The Sober Bar London CIC

The Sober Bar London CIC is a community-focused social enterprise committed to creating welcoming, inclusive and alcohol-free spaces where people can connect, build friendships and feel a sense of belonging.

Our community supports people experiencing loneliness, social isolation, addiction recovery or difficulties accessing traditional social spaces.

We are passionate about creating positive social experiences that bring people together without the pressure of alcohol, while ensuring our spaces remain inclusive and welcoming to LGBTQ+ individuals and people from all backgrounds.

As our community continues to grow, effective administration and organisation are essential to supporting our activities, coordinating volunteers and helping the organisation develop sustainably.

About the Volunteer Role

We are looking for an organised, reliable and proactive Volunteer Administrator to support the day-to-day running and development of The Sober Bar London CIC.

You will help ensure that our administrative systems, records, communications and organisational processes run smoothly, allowing us to focus on building an inclusive and supportive community.

This is a flexible, hands-on volunteering opportunity for someone who enjoys keeping things organised, working independently and supporting a community-focused organisation behind the scenes.

You will work alongside the organisation's leadership team and other volunteers to help coordinate administrative tasks, maintain accurate records and support the planning and delivery of community activities.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute ideas for improving administrative systems and help shape the future development of the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide general administrative support to the organisation, helping ensure day-to-day tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Maintain and organise digital documents, records, spreadsheets and shared folders.
  • Support the coordination of volunteer activities, including maintaining volunteer information and helping organise schedules where required.
  • Assist with email correspondence, responding to routine enquiries and directing more complex matters to the appropriate person.
  • Help maintain records of meetings, actions, decisions and organisational activities.
  • Support the preparation of meeting agendas, notes, reports and other administrative documents.
  • Assist with organising online and in-person community events, including maintaining event information and supporting volunteer coordination.
  • Help keep organisational information, policies, procedures and internal documentation up to date.
  • Support the collection of feedback, activity information and other data that helps the organisation evaluate and improve its services.
  • Assist with basic research into community opportunities, partnerships, funding opportunities and relevant resources.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve administrative processes, digital organisation and communication between volunteers.
  • Handle organisational information responsibly, maintaining confidentiality and following applicable data protection requirements.
  • Recognise safeguarding concerns and report them promptly to the designated Safeguarding Lead.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and follow the organisation's policies, procedures and guidance.

About You

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Organised, dependable and able to manage administrative tasks effectively.
  • A good communicator with clear written communication skills.
  • Comfortable working independently, prioritising tasks and managing their time.
  • Proactive and willing to use their initiative when identifying tasks that need attention.
  • Confident using computers and everyday digital tools, such as email, word processing software, spreadsheets and online document-sharing platforms.
  • Able to handle confidential information responsibly and understand the importance of data protection.
  • Friendly, approachable and comfortable working with a diverse team of volunteers.
  • Passionate about community inclusion, social connection and helping reduce loneliness and social isolation.
  • Committed to LGBTQ+ inclusion, diversity and respectful communication.
  • Willing to learn new systems, develop administrative skills and contribute ideas to improve how the organisation operates.

Previous experience in administration, office support, community organisations, volunteer coordination or charity work would be helpful but is not essential. We welcome applications from people looking to develop their skills and gain practical experience in a supportive, community-focused environment.

Time Commitment

This role requires approximately 4 hours per week, including administrative tasks, maintaining records, responding to communications and supporting the organisation's ongoing activities.

The majority of tasks can be completed remotely and organised flexibly around your own availability. Volunteers will agree priorities and deadlines with the organisation to ensure essential administrative responsibilities are completed consistently.

What You Will Gain

  • Practical experience in administration and organisational support.
  • Opportunities to develop digital, organisational and communication skills.
  • Experience supporting a community-focused social enterprise.
  • Opportunities to learn about volunteer coordination, community development and the running of a Community Interest Company.
  • The opportunity to contribute ideas, improve systems and help develop effective ways of working.
  • Experience working collaboratively with a diverse team of volunteers.
  • The satisfaction of helping an inclusive, alcohol-free community grow and thrive.
  • A meaningful opportunity to contribute to a cause that supports social connection, wellbeing and inclusion.

Safeguarding and Boundaries

The Sober Bar London CIC provides non-clinical, non-therapeutic community spaces. Volunteers are not expected to provide counselling, addiction treatment or crisis intervention.

The Volunteer Administrator may have access to organisational or volunteer information as part of their duties and must handle it appropriately, respecting confidentiality and following the organisation's data protection and safeguarding procedures.

You will receive appropriate guidance on your responsibilities, professional boundaries and how to escalate safeguarding concerns to the designated Safeguarding Lead.

Help us build a stronger, more connected and inclusive community. Become a Volunteer Administrator and play an important role in keeping The Sober Bar London CIC organised, supported and ready to grow.
