ABOUT THE ROBIN FOUNDATION™
The Robin Foundation™ is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing overdose deaths through education, awareness, Narcan distribution, and community outreach.
Founded in 2003 following the loss of a loved one to opioid addiction, our mission became even more personal after the tragic loss of our founder’s daughter to fentanyl poisoning.
Today, we work with schools, universities, municipalities, first responders, and community organizations to provide lifesaving overdose prevention education and access to Narcan (naloxone).
Our belief is simple: Education saves lives, and no family should have to experience the heartbreak of losing someone to a preventable overdose.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Robin Foundation™ is seeking compassionate, enthusiastic Volunteer Overdose Prevention Educators to help us bring lifesaving education to middle and high school students throughout South Florida.
We are particularly interested in retired teachers, nurses, healthcare professionals, counselors, and individuals who enjoy working with young people.
Our goal is to educate students about the dangers of fentanyl and counterfeit pills, help them recognize the warning signs of an opioid overdose, and teach them how to respond appropriately in an emergency.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of young people while volunteering on a flexible schedule.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Selected volunteers will:
- Deliver age-appropriate overdose awareness and prevention presentations to middle and high school students.
- Educate students about fentanyl, counterfeit prescription pills, and the dangers of accidental overdose.
- Teach students how to recognize the warning signs of an opioid overdose.
- Explain how Narcan (naloxone) works and demonstrate its proper administration using training devices.
- Emphasize the importance of calling 911 and obtaining immediate emergency assistance.
- Encourage students to make informed decisions and understand the importance of seeking help.
- Represent The Robin Foundation™ professionally and compassionately at participating schools and community events.
- Work with Foundation leadership to coordinate presentations and educational activities.
QUALIFICATIONS
We welcome applicants with backgrounds in:
- Teaching and education, including retired educators
- Nursing and healthcare
- Counseling, social work, and behavioral health
- Public health and community education
- Youth mentoring and prevention programs
- Public speaking and community outreach
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching or presenting to middle or high school students.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Comfortable speaking in front of groups.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish (strongly preferred, but not required).
- A genuine interest in overdose prevention and helping young people.
- Reliable transportation to participating schools.
Previous overdose prevention training experience is not required . We will provide the necessary preparation and educational materials.
Volunteers must successfully complete applicable background screening and school district clearance requirements before working with students.
VOLUNTEER SCHEDULE
We understand that volunteers have different schedules and commitments.
Our preferred commitment is approximately one day per week.
However, we also welcome individuals who can volunteer occasionally when schools request presentations.
Most presentations will take place during regular school hours.
We hope to develop a small team of qualified volunteers who can help us reach more students throughout South Florida.
TRAINING AND SUPPORT
The Robin Foundation™ collaborates with Overdose Lifeline, a nationally recognized organization providing evidence-informed overdose prevention education.
Our educational resources include This Is Not About Drugs (TINAD) , a prevention program designed for young audiences.
Selected volunteers will receive:
- Orientation and preparation in overdose prevention education.
- Access to established educational materials and presentation resources.
- Guidance on recognizing and responding to opioid overdoses.
- Instruction in demonstrating Narcan administration.
- Ongoing support from Foundation leadership.
All school presentations will be coordinated with participating schools and conducted in accordance with their policies.
WHY VOLUNTEER WITH US?
For our Foundation, overdose prevention is more than a cause. It is personal.
We have experienced firsthand the devastation of losing loved ones to opioid addiction and fentanyl poisoning.
We cannot change what happened to our family, but we can work to prevent it from happening to yours.
By volunteering just a few hours of your time, you may provide a student with the knowledge needed to save a friend, family member, or even their own life.
Your time, experience, and compassion can make a difference.
