What they need
Position Information
Kentish and Latrobe Councils are seeking an enthusiastic Volunteer Program Officer to establish and embed a consistent, sustainable volunteer framework across both Councils. This part-time, 18-month fixed-term role offers a great opportunity to work across two municipalities and contribute to how Council supports and enables volunteering.
You’ll work with a range of Council teams to review and improve existing volunteer arrangements, develop consistent recruitment, induction, training and compliance processes, and establish clear governance and support arrangements.
A key part of the role will be establishing TechOne as the corporate volunteer record, coordinating a corporate online induction program, and providing practical information, training and guidance to employees and volunteer supervisors. You’ll also support consistent governance and financial arrangements for relevant Council special committees and help transition ongoing responsibilities to the appropriate service areas.
The successful applicant will have a Certificate III or higher qualification in a relevant field (e.g., community services, HR, or volunteer management), or equivalent skills and experience, with experience in program coordination, project implementation, volunteer management, governance or related administration. You’ll bring strong organisational, communication, analytical and problem-solving skills, along with knowledge of volunteer management, governance, risk and relevant obligations including WHS, child safety and privacy.
A current driver's licence is required. A Working with Vulnerable Persons check is desirable. Experience in local government, organisational change, corporate systems or volunteer governance will be highly regarded.
The position is primarily based at Kentish Council and may require work across multiple Council locations, including occasional after-hours or weekend work.
About Us
The Latrobe and Kentish Councils are located adjacent to each other in the North-West of Tasmania and cover an area from the coastal beaches of Port Sorell to the highland regions of Mount Roland and Cradle Mountain.
Latrobe and Kentish Councils value collaboration and partnerships both within and outside their municipalities. As part of their business model, the Councils have entered into a resource-sharing arrangement. This allows both Councils to deliver services and outcomes for their respective communities to gain benefits that may have been otherwise unattainable.
Since the inception of the resource sharing arrangements in 2010, the number of resources shared has steadily grown and the two Councils now operate as one organisation with each Council retaining their respective elected representatives.
