Volunteer Tutor - Math, Science

About United for Literacy

United for Literacy is a national charitable literacy organization, established in 1899 on the belief that literacy is a right. We work collaboratively with community-based agencies across Canada to provide targeted, innovative literacy and numeracy support where it’s needed most. Each year, more than 31,000 children, youth, and adults participate in our programs in over 160 communities across the country.

We are looking for volunteers who are interested in tutoring with one of our community partners, the Vancouver Homework Club Society, located at Britannia Secondary School. Established in 2001, Homework Club provides free tutoring and learning support to students in East Vancouver through this after-school program. In addition to a safe and welcoming learning environment, the Club offers students food to enjoy while they study.

Homework Club operates on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays every week from 3 – 6pm. It is ideal for volunteers to commit to at least one session per week; however, any form of consistent commitment is appreciated. We are looking for volunteers who are interested in tutoring math and/or science and are willing to work directly with secondary school students on their homework assignments and life skills.
