WAF/Akamai Security Engineer

We are seeking an experienced WAF / Akamai Security Engineer to lead enterprise-scale application onboarding, WAF policy tuning, threat analysis, incident response, and Akamai security platform optimization.

📍 Location: NYC, NY or Alpharetta, GA

Mandatory Skills:

• 5+ years of hands-on Akamai experience
• Akamai Kona Site Defender
• Akamai Bot Manager
• Akamai API Security
• Strong knowledge of OWASP Top 10
• Incident Response experience
• WAF policy management, tuning, and false-positive analysis
• Enterprise application migration/onboarding experience

Preferred Skills:

• AI/LLM Security
• Akamai Firewall for AI
• Enterprise-scale WAF migration
• Financial Services industry experience
• API and application security
• DDoS and bot mitigation

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead onboarding and migration of internet-facing applications to Akamai WAF .
• Configure, tune, and optimize WAF policies while minimizing false positives.
• Manage migration from monitor/alert mode to deny/mitigation mode .
• Analyze WAF, Bot Manager, DDoS, Client Reputation, and API Security events.
• Troubleshoot AI/LLM traffic and support AI, API, and application security initiatives.
• Evaluate emerging Akamai capabilities including Firewall for AI, AI-powered detection, bot identification, and agentic AI protection .
• Support production incidents involving WAF, DNS, proxy, load balancers, routing, latency, and application availability.
• Conduct quarterly security reviews, WAF upgrades, and policy assessments.
• Provide security architecture guidance around OWASP, API security, bot mitigation, and DDoS protection .
• Partner with application, infrastructure, security, risk, audit, and leadership teams.
• Track onboarding, remediation, risks, dependencies, and security metrics.
• Act as the primary technical liaison with Akamai for escalations, troubleshooting, product enhancements, and roadmap discussions.
