What they need
Section Waiter / Bartender – FOH All-Rounder
The Rising Sun Hotel | Richmond
Permanent Part-Time
We’re looking for a mature, experienced Section Waiter / Bartender to join the team at the Rising Sun Hotel on a permanent part-time basis.
This role is suited to an experienced hospitality professional who is genuinely comfortable working across both the floor and bar. You’ll be able to confidently manage your own section during a busy service, while also being equally capable of stepping behind the bar, pouring a proper pint, making classic drinks and looking after the locals.
We’re looking for someone with a minimum of three years’ experience in busy, established venues who takes pride in genuine hospitality and enjoys being part of a community-focused pub.
Evening and weekend avlibility required.
The Venue
The Rising Sun Hotel has stood proudly on the corner of Burnley and Swan since the 1800s, watching the world change while remaining, mercifully, the kind of pub where you can still get a proper pint without downloading an app.
Reopened by the team behind the Royal Oak (Fitzroy North) and The Sporting Club (Brunswick), the Rising Sun has entered a new chapter, combining genuine neighbourhood hospitality with a food offering that’s proudly, wonderfully pub.
Our aim is simple: great food, thoughtful drinks, friendly service, and a venue locals are proud to call their own.
The Role
As a Section Waiter / Bartender, you’ll work across all areas of the venue depending on the needs of service.
On the floor, you’ll confidently manage your own section, take orders, provide knowledgeable food and beverage recommendations and ensure guests receive warm, professional service throughout their visit.
Behind the bar, you’ll be comfortable serving beer, wine, spirits and classic mixed drinks, maintaining a clean and organised bar and delivering the same level of hospitality to our bar regulars as you would to a table in the dining room.
You’ll work closely with the Venue Manager, leadership team, kitchen and wider FOH team to keep service running smoothly and ensure guests leave wanting to come back.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a busy, established restaurant, pub or hospitality venue.
- Strong experience across both floor and bar service.

- Strong food, wine, beer and general beverage knowledge.
- Excellent communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to move between different areas of the venue as service requires.
- A genuine passion for hospitality and looking after people.
- A love of community and neighbourhood pubs.
Desirable
- WSET Level 1 or Level 2 an advantage
- Strong wine and beer knowledge.
- Experience working in high-volume pubs or restaurants.
What We Offer
- Permanent part-time employment with guaranteed minimum hours, negotiable for the right candidate.
- Employment under the Publican.Co Enterprise Agreement 2023/2024.
- Annual leave and personal leave accrued in accordance with Fair Work.
- Guaranteed annual wage increases under the Enterprise Agreement.
- Ongoing food, wine, beer and service training.
- A supportive, professional and respectful team culture.
