Wake Surf & Wakeboard Coach / Boat Captain

Seasonal Position (June 1 – October 1)

We are looking for an enthusiastic and responsible Wake Surf & Wakeboard Coach / Boat Captain to join our team for the summer season. This role is perfect for someone who loves being on the water, enjoys teaching others, and takes pride in maintaining high-quality equipment while providing an exceptional customer experience.

As a coach and captain, you will be responsible for safely operating the boat, teaching wake surfing and wakeboarding to guests of all skill levels, and ensuring every group has a fun, safe, and memorable experience on the water.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate a wakeboard boat during lessons and tours
• Teach wake surfing and wakeboarding to individuals and groups of varying experience levels
• Maintain strong awareness of surrounding boats, riders, and water conditions to ensure safety
• Launch and retrieve the boat daily using your own truck capable of towing a boat trailer
• Ensure the boat is removed from the water at the end of each day
• Clean and wipe down the interior and exterior of the boat after each session
• Fill the boat with fuel and check that the water strainer is clean and functioning properly
• Ensure all gear and equipment is ready prior to client arrival
• Check in with management before and after each scheduled group
• Provide a positive and professional experience for every guest
• At the end of each day, properly cover the boat and ensure it is securely locked and stored

Professional Conduct

This is a professional business and client safety is our top priority.

• Under no circumstances is the boat to be used for personal use or “joy riding.”
• The boat may only be operated during scheduled sessions, required testing, or operational tasks approved by management.
• Professional behavior and respect for company equipment is required at all times.

Client Experience & Boat Etiquette

You will also be responsible for educating guests on proper boat etiquette, including:

• No shoes on the boat
• No spray-on sunscreen
• Do not stand on seats or upholstery
• No food or drinks that could stain the boat
• Respecting equipment and maintaining a clean environment

Equipment Care & Responsibility

Our boats and equipment are high-value assets and must be treated with care at all times.

• Coaches are expected to operate all equipment responsibly and with good judgment.
• Any mechanical issues, damage, or concerns must be reported immediately to management.
• Negligence, reckless behavior, or misuse of equipment may result in disciplinary action or termination.
• Maintaining the cleanliness and overall condition of the boat is part of the daily responsibilities of this position.

Weather & Safety Authority

Safety is always the top priority.

• Coaches must continuously evaluate weather conditions, water conditions, and surrounding boat traffic.
• If conditions become unsafe due to weather, heavy traffic, mechanical issues, or rider safety concerns, the coach has the authority to pause, modify, or end a session.
• All safety decisions must be made in the best interest of clients, crew, and equipment.

Requirements

• Previous wake surfing and wakeboarding experience
• Must know how to operate and drive a wakeboard boat
• Valid Boater Safety Certification (or ability to obtain before the season)
• CPR and First Aid Certification
• Strong awareness of water safety and surrounding boat traffic
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Must own a truck capable of towing a boat and trailer
• Reliable, punctual, and professional attitude
• Ability to work outdoors and on the water for extended periods

Compensation

Pay is based on the duration of each booking:

• $75 – 3-hour session
• $150 – 6-hour session
• Additional pay for longer bookings

Tips are common and can significantly increase earnings:

• Average tips: $75 – $100 per session
• Full-day bookings often tip $200 – $300

If you provide a great experience and help guests progress and have fun, they will appreciate it—and it often shows in the tips.

Boat Handling Experience

• Applicants must have prior experience towing and launching boats.
• Please answer the following in your application:
• How many years of experience do you have towing boats with a trailer?
• What size boats have you towed and launched?
• Are you comfortable launching and retrieving a wake boat alone at a busy ramp?

Coaching Experience
This position requires teaching beginner to intermediate riders.

Please describe:

• Your experience teaching wakeboarding or wake surfing
• How you would coach a first-time rider getting up on a wakeboard

Professional Expectations

This is a professional watersports business. The boat is only used for scheduled sessions and operational duties.
