What they need

About Modern Matter

Modern Matter is a Virginia Beach-based designer and manufacturer of luxury decorative and architectural hardware. We collaborate with leading designers to create distinctive products using solid brass, natural stone, gemstones, wood, acrylic, and other premium materials.

Our customers expect an exceptional product, so accuracy, craftsmanship, and attention to detail are essential at every stage—from receiving and inspecting materials to cutting, assembling, packing, and shipping completed orders.

We are seeking a dependable, safety-minded Warehouse Assembly Associate and Saw Operator to join our Operations team.

About the Position

This position will report to the Warehouse Lead, Carol Mekosh, and is a hands-on warehouse and production role responsible for picking and packing orders, assembling products, inspecting components for quality, preparing shipments, receiving materials, and supporting inventory accuracy. The position will also operate saws and related equipment to measure and cut window hardware components to customer specifications and help move orders efficiently through cutting, assembly, quality control, packing, and fulfillment. Additional warehouse and operational responsibilities will be assigned as priorities change.

The ideal candidate will take ownership of the window hardware work area, maintain high standards for safety and quality, and help keep orders moving accurately and efficiently.

Experience with decorative hardware or Modern Matter products is not required. Training will be provided on our products, equipment, processes, and quality standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Safely operate saws and related equipment to cut window hardware components according to order specifications and established procedures.
  • Verify materials, finishes, measurements, quantities, and order details before cutting.
  • Inspect completed cuts for accuracy, finish quality, damage, and overall appearance.
  • Perform final quality checks before products move to packing or shipping.
  • Help coordinate window hardware orders through cutting, assembly, packaging, and fulfillment.
  • Monitor workflow and communicate delays, material shortages, quality issues, or order discrepancies.
  • Maintain an organized supply of window hardware materials and components.
  • Assist with the assembly, preparation, and packaging of completed products.
  • Conduct routine equipment checks and report wear, damage, or maintenance needs.
  • Keep the saw station and surrounding work areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
  • Follow all equipment, PPE, warehouse, and safety procedures.
  • Identify and communicate unsafe equipment, conditions, or work practices.
  • Assist teammates with window hardware procedures and help reinforce safe, accurate work practices.
  • Work with the Operations Manager to address recurring workflow, quality, equipment, or safety concerns.
  • Assist with receiving, picking, packing, shipping, inventory counts, assembly, and other warehouse responsibilities as needed.
  • Safely operate pallet jacks, hand trucks, and other warehouse equipment.
  • Lead by example through safe, accurate, productive, and professional work.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is:

  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work productively with limited supervision.
  • Safety-minded and willing to take ownership of a clean and organized work area.
  • Comfortable operating saws, power tools, machinery, or similar equipment.
  • Able to read a tape measure accurately and work with precise measurements.
  • Detail-oriented and committed to consistent quality.
  • Able to perform repetitive measurements and cuts while maintaining accuracy and focus.
  • Organized and capable of managing multiple orders and changing priorities.
  • Able to follow written procedures, product specifications, and safety requirements.
  • Comfortable identifying and communicating equipment, material, quality, or safety concerns.
  • Familiar with warehouse management systems, or comfortable learning new digital systems.
  • Computer literate and able to use technology to manage orders, inventory, and related records.
  • Professional, respectful, cooperative, and open to feedback.
  • Willing to assist with responsibilities outside the primary role when operational priorities require it.
  • Interested in a stable, long-term opportunity with room to grow.

Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

  • Saw or machine operation
  • Manufacturing or fabrication
  • Woodworking or metalworking
  • Warehouse operations and fulfillment
  • Quality control
  • Inventory management
  • Product assembly
  • Construction or another hands-on production environment

Previous experience as a lead, trainer, safety representative, or experienced team member is a plus but not required. Forklift or other warehouse equipment experience is also beneficial.

Safety, Quality, and Teamwork

Safety and quality are shared responsibilities at Modern Matter. Team members are expected to follow established procedures, communicate clearly and respectfully, take responsibility for their work, and address concerns with a solutions-focused approach.

This position involves more than operating a saw. The right candidate will take pride in producing accurate work, maintaining a safe and organized workspace, helping orders move efficiently, and supporting the broader Operations team when needed.
