What they need
Warehouse Operations ManagerJob Summary
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Warehouse Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day operations of our fast-paced fulfillment and distribution facility.
This position is responsible for overseeing the entire warehouse workflow, including receiving, inventory organization, order picking, packing, quality control, shipping, staffing, productivity, and overall operational performance.
The ideal candidate is a strong leader who is comfortable managing multiple departments and shifts, solving problems in real time, holding employees accountable, and continuously improving warehouse processes.
This is not a desk-only management position. The Warehouse Operations Manager will be expected to remain actively involved in daily operations, monitor workflow throughout the facility, identify bottlenecks, assist with problem resolution, and ensure orders move efficiently from receiving through final shipment.
The successful candidate will be highly organized, data-driven, dependable, and capable of leading a growing warehouse team while maintaining high standards for accuracy, productivity, safety, and quality.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all daily warehouse operations, including receiving, inventory, picking, packing, quality control, order processing, and shipping.
- Manage warehouse employees across multiple departments and shifts to ensure adequate staffing and efficient workflow.
- Assign daily labor based on workload, priorities, backlog, incoming inventory, and shipping requirements.
- Monitor order volume and warehouse throughput throughout the day and make staffing or workflow adjustments as needed.
- Ensure customer orders are picked, packed, audited, and shipped accurately and efficiently.
- Oversee receiving operations, including unloading, verifying, counting, inspecting, organizing, and properly storing incoming inventory.
- Maintain accurate inventory levels and ensure products are properly labeled, located, staged, and accounted for.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies, picking errors, packing errors, missing products, damaged items, and other operational issues.
- Ensure established quality-control procedures are followed before orders leave the facility.
- Monitor and manage order backlogs, aging orders, priority orders, and exceptions requiring additional attention.
- Develop and enforce standard operating procedures for receiving, picking, packing, inventory management, quality control, and shipping.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement process improvements to increase productivity and reduce errors.
- Track employee productivity, accuracy, attendance, and overall performance.
- Establish clear productivity expectations and hold employees accountable for meeting performance standards.
- Train, coach, supervise, and develop warehouse leads, supervisors, and associates.
- Conduct performance reviews and address attendance, productivity, quality, or behavioral issues when necessary.
- Coordinate staffing between departments when workload changes throughout the day.
- Oversee proper use of warehouse equipment, scanners, computers, printers, label systems, carts, shelving, and other operational tools.
- Ensure shipping labels, order documentation, and carrier handoffs are completed accurately.
- Coordinate daily carrier pickups and ensure outgoing shipments are properly staged and ready for collection.
- Work closely with customer service, management, purchasing, inventory, and other departments to resolve order or inventory-related issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized, efficient, and professional warehouse environment.
- Ensure employees follow company safety procedures and proper material-handling practices.
- Monitor warehouse supplies and ensure necessary shipping and packing materials remain adequately stocked.
- Develop and monitor warehouse KPIs including order throughput, picking accuracy, packing accuracy, shipping accuracy, productivity, inventory accuracy, and backlog reduction.
- Prepare regular operational reports for senior management.
- Identify recurring problems and recommend system, staffing, equipment, or process changes.
- Assist management with warehouse expansion, layout changes, equipment implementation, staffing plans, and operational growth initiatives.
- Ensure company policies and warehouse procedures are consistently followed across all shifts.
Requirements
- Previous warehouse management, fulfillment management, distribution management, or operations management experience required.
- Demonstrated experience supervising warehouse employees in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of receiving, inventory control, picking, packing, fulfillment, shipping, and warehouse workflow.
- Experience managing multiple departments or warehouse work areas simultaneously.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach employees, resolve conflicts, and enforce performance expectations.
- Ability to analyze workflow and quickly identify operational bottlenecks or productivity issues.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage large order volumes and changing operational priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality.
- Experience with warehouse management systems, inventory systems, shipping software, barcode scanners, or similar technology.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, spreadsheets, email, reporting tools, and general business software.
- Ability to interpret productivity data and use performance metrics to improve operations.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm and make effective decisions in a high-volume, time-sensitive environment.
- Dependable attendance and the ability to provide leadership across multiple warehouse shifts when necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing an e-commerce fulfillment or direct-to-consumer distribution operation.
- Experience managing high-volume small-parcel shipping operations.
- Experience implementing or improving warehouse processes and standard operating procedures.
- Familiarity with warehouse management systems, barcode-based inventory systems, RF scanners, shipping platforms, and automated fulfillment tools.
- Experience developing warehouse KPIs and employee productivity standards.
- Experience managing multiple shifts or extended-hour warehouse operations.
- Lean, Six Sigma, continuous improvement, or similar process-improvement experience is a plus.
- Experience participating in warehouse moves, expansions, layout redesigns, or new facility startups is highly desirable.
Leadership Expectations
This position requires a manager who is willing to take ownership of warehouse performance.
The Warehouse Operations Manager should know what is happening throughout the facility at all times — what has been received, what is waiting to be processed, how many orders are being picked and packed, where bottlenecks are occurring, what the current backlog looks like, and whether employees are meeting expectations.
We are looking for someone who does not simply identify problems but actively works to solve them.
The right candidate will create structure, improve accountability, develop strong team leads, establish measurable performance expectations, and continuously look for ways to increase accuracy and throughput without sacrificing quality.
What Success Looks Like
Success in this role means:
- Orders consistently move through the warehouse efficiently.
- Backlogs are identified early and actively managed.
- Inventory remains organized and accurate.
- Employees understand their expectations and are held accountable.
- Picking and packing errors remain low.
- Shipping deadlines are consistently met.
- Warehouse staffing matches actual workload.
- Problems are escalated quickly instead of being allowed to compound.
- Management has clear visibility into warehouse productivity and performance.
- Processes become more efficient as the operation continues to grow.
If you are an experienced warehouse leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, takes ownership of results, and enjoys building efficient operations and high-performing teams, we encourage you to apply.
