Hours of work: Working five eight-hour shifts across 7 days allocated by business need. 40 hours per week. Will include some work on weekends / Bank Holidays. 6-2 2-10

Driving Licence Required: Full UK driving licence.

Any additional qualifications: Counterbalance (training will be given)

Job Summary:

The Warehouse Operative is responsible for packing and handling animal feed products and supporting day-to-day warehouse operations, including the safe receipt, storage, picking, and dispatch of raw materials and finished feeds in both bulk and bagged form. The role involves manual handling, stock rotation, housekeeping, and basic maintenance duties, as well as providing cover and assistance in the Blending Shed to support safe, efficient feed production. The post holder is required to operate machinery safely, follow health & safety and feed safety procedures, and maintain clean, tidy work areas across the site.

Main Duties and Responsibilities (Job Tasks):

Personal & Operational Site Safety / Animal Feed Safety:

• Ensure safe, clean and compliant production of animal feed and other company products to all relevant company and feed safety standards.
• Ensure compliance with company H&S policy, that appropriate site standard PPE is worn at all times and safety equipment / devices used where appropriate.
• Ensure safe operation of company machinery / vehicles by yourself.
• Ensure that the Production Manager is made aware of any incidents / or issues that have or have the potential to compromise personal or animal feed safety.
• Ensure work areas are clean, tidy and well maintained, promptly removing and disposing of waste and potential contaminants after work activities.

Standards & Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with all company standards and procedures, temporary procedures, work permits and Safe Systems of Work (SSOW’s.)
• Ensure that warehouse work areas assigned to you are kept clean and tidy at all times.
• Ensure Adherence to relevant Animal Feed Safety Standards.
• UFAS.
• Safe handling and use of medicated feed.

Effective Communications & Reporting:

• Ensure accurate and effective communication with your Production Manager and Colleagues in the mill, blending shed and weighbridge.
• Complete all shift logs and ensure that key information / data & losses are recorded accurately and timely.
• Maintenance requirements and breakdowns must be promptly reported to the Engineering Team and any relevant person(s) in sales or planning teams.
• Ensure that production stoppages, breakdowns and deviations to the production plan are accurately & promptly reported to the Production Planner so that any mitigation(s) can be made as soon as possible.

Warehouse:

• Packing and bagging products, including lifting and carrying weights of up to 25kg.
• Accepting deliveries, safely unloading and correctly storing raw materials and other goods.
• Picking and loading products onto company vehicles for delivery and customers own vehicles if collecting.
• Managing stock rotation of raw materials and bagged feeds.
• Managing tote bins including emptying tote bin fines when required.
• Carrying out cleaning and minor repair and maintenance work in the warehouse and other site areas as required. This includes all site toilets and canteen areas.

Blending Shed:

• Provide holiday cover for the Blending shed operator and assist at peak times.
• Safe operation of Blending Shed machinery and vehicles.
• Ensure that work areas assigned to you are kept clean and tidy at all times.

Training & Competence:

• Undertake training to suit business needs, relevant to the requirements of the Mill Operative job role.

Ad hoc Duties:

• In addition to the Job Role & Responsibilities above, the post holder will be expected to carry out other reasonable tasks that fall within the scope and purpose of the post, or which the company deems is within their capabilities.

Person Specification

Skills/Knowledge:

• Maintaining site health & safety rules.
• Warehouse operation goods receipt, dispatch and administration.
• Operation in a feed manufacturing or other manufacturing process environment.
• Basic mechanical competence.
• Driving Licence.
• FLT.

Experience:

• Experience in a warehouse, production, or manufacturing environment (animal feed, agriculture, or food production.)
• Experience in packing, picking, and dispatching goods, including manual handling of heavy items.
• Experience receiving deliveries and storing raw materials correctly.
• Familiarity with stock rotation and basic inventory control.
• Experience working to health & safety, feed/food safety, and site hygiene standards.
• Experience operating machinery or vehicles (e.g. forklifts.)
