Warehouse Sorter

Job Summary

This job is mostly about getting freight into the right place before it moves on. You'll be stationed near the belt or out on the sort floor, checking labels and directing packages into the lane, chute, or cart they're headed for. Some nights are slow. Other nights the trailers come in one after another and you'll be working steadily through a wall of cartons, keeping the line clear so the next batch has somewhere to go. There's competitive pay for the shift and the schedule is generally the same week to week. Nobody expects you to memorize the zone chart on day one.

Responsibilities

• Reading labels and routing packages to the correct lane.
• Load cartons onto pallets and keep the stacks square.
• Pulling crushed or leaking boxes off the line.
• Anything without a scannable label goes to the exception table, where a lead sorts out where it was supposed to go.
• Feeding smaller parcels onto the belt from the receiving carts.
• Keep your area clear of loose banding, tape, and stray cardboard.
• Wrapping finished pallets before they head to the dock.

Qualifications

• After an hour the labels start looking the same, so we need someone who still spots a mislabeled carton when it comes by.
• Standing for a full shift and lifting boxes up to around fifty pounds is part of the job most days.
• You can work at a good clip without letting the sorting get sloppy.
• If a stack starts leaning or a chute jams, you'd rather deal with it right away than walk past it.
• Following the routing signage on the floor takes reading in English, and that's something you're comfortable with.
• Showing up for the shift you're scheduled for is a big part of it, since the line is staffed pretty tight.
• Getting moved to a different lane midway through doesn't bother you.

Pay: $24.63 - $29.66 per hour
