What they need
We are an established and growing online furniture retailer looking for an experienced and highly motivated Hands-On Warehouse Manager to take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of our warehouse.
We are specifically looking for someone with strong previous experience working within an e-commerce/online retail warehouse environment, with a thorough understanding of picking, packing, dispatch, stock control and managing a busy daily online order operation.
We currently have a small permanent warehouse team, supported by additional part-time staff during busy periods and when containers arrive.
This is a hands-on management position. We are not looking for someone who simply supervises from an office. You will be expected to lead by example and regularly work alongside the warehouse team, including picking, packing, loading, unloading and other warehouse duties when required.
You will have the responsibility to organise and manage the team, improve working practices, monitor performance and help us maintain a reliable, efficient and productive e-commerce warehouse operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full responsibility for the day-to-day running of the warehouse
- Manage, organise and motivate the warehouse team
- Manage the daily picking, packing and dispatch of online customer orders
- Ensure orders are picked and packed accurately and dispatched on time
- Work hands-on alongside the warehouse team when required
- Manage daily order volumes and prioritise workloads
- Manage goods-in and organise the unloading of incoming containers
- Operate a forklift as part of normal warehouse operations
- Plan staffing requirements for container deliveries and busy periods
- Ensure stock is stored correctly and warehouse space is used efficiently
- Maintain accurate stock control and investigate stock discrepancies
- Monitor staff productivity, attendance, accuracy and performance
- Address performance issues and help develop a strong and reliable warehouse team
- Assist with recruitment, training and development of warehouse employees
- Introduce and improve warehouse procedures and processes
- Liaise with couriers, hauliers and other transport companies
- Ensure courier collections and deliveries run smoothly
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping and warehouse organisation
- Ensure health & safety procedures are followed at all times
- Report operational issues and improvement opportunities directly to senior management
Essential Experience & Requirements
Applicants must have:
- A valid forklift licence
- Strong previous experience working in an e-commerce/online retail warehouse
- Previous Warehouse Manager or strong Warehouse Supervisor experience
- Extensive experience with picking, packing and dispatching online customer orders
- Experience managing daily online order volumes and meeting courier collection deadlines
- Experience managing and motivating a warehouse team
- Strong knowledge of stock control, goods-in and warehouse organisation
- Experience using warehouse, order management or e-commerce systems
- A good understanding of warehouse health & safety
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- Confidence managing staff productivity, attendance and performance
- Good computer and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure during busy periods
- A genuinely hands-on approach to warehouse management
Candidates without previous e-commerce/online retail warehouse experience and a valid forklift licence will not be suitable for this position.
Experience within online furniture retail, bulky goods, multi-box orders or high-volume parcel dispatch would be a strong advantage.
The Person
We are looking for someone who can take ownership of the warehouse and proactively identify what needs to be done rather than waiting for instructions.
You should understand the demands of an online retail business, where orders need to be picked, packed and dispatched accurately every day within strict courier collection deadlines.
You must be comfortable managing people while also being prepared to roll up your sleeves and work alongside the team.
We want someone who can bring their previous e-commerce warehouse experience into the business, improve our processes and help us build a highly productive and reliable warehouse team.
What We Offer
- Salary of £33,000–£37,000, depending on experience
- Permanent full-time position
- Monday to Friday working
- No regular weekend working
- Stable and growing e-commerce business
- Opportunity to take ownership of the warehouse operation
- Salary and performance review following successful completion of probation
If you have strong e-commerce warehouse management experience, a valid forklift licence and are looking for a genuinely hands-on management position, we would like to hear from you.
Pay: £32,000.00-£37,000.00 per year
