Waste removal driver

Job Summary
We are a small, independent company seeking a reliable and physically fit waste collector/ driver to join our waste management team. The successful candidate will be responsible for collecting and transporting waste in a safe, efficient, and environmentally responsible manner. This role requires a strong focus on safety, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Previous experience in driving large vehicles and in the waste sector or removals is preferred but not essential as training will be given. A valid driver’s licence, ideally with minimal points and over 25 is preferred for insurance purposes.

Duties

• Operate waste collection vehicles safely and efficiently
• Collect waste from residential, commercial, or industrial sites as assigned
• Build rapport with customers and colleagues​
• Ensure all refuse is properly loaded and secured in the vehicle
• Conduct routine vehicle inspections and report any mechanical issues promptly
• Maintain accurate records of collections and route completion
• Adhere to health and safety regulations at all times during operations
• Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding route progress or issues encountered
• Follow company policies on environmental standards and waste disposal procedures
• Using your smartphone to take photos of jobs and upload them to our work app​

Experience

• Previous experience in driving or in the waste sector is preferred but not essential
• Familiarity with flatbed transportation and loading techniques is a plus
• Strong communication skills for liaising with team members and clients
• Experience operating larger vehicles such as caged tipper vans or similar is desirable

Examples of jobs:

• Moving sofas as part of a two person team from inside the customer property
• Clearing mixed waste from inside or outside properties
• Undertaking a garden clearance
• Emptying wheelie bins when the regular contractor has been unable to attend due to a service issue or overloading of the bins
• Clearing an entire house (including removal of carpets)
