What they need
About the role
This position is established in accordance with the regulations of the Malaysian Department of Environment (DOE) and is primarily responsible for ensuring the compliant operation of the plant-wide wastewater treatment system. Through effective control of wastewater treatment processes, water quality compliance, equipment maintenance, regulatory reporting, and environmental risk management, the role ensures long-term compliance and stable wastewater discharge performance. The position also focuses on optimizing wastewater treatment costs, implementing water-saving improvement projects, and ensuring compliant sludge management to mitigate regulatory risks, avoid environmental violations, and support safe, sustainable, and environmentally compliant manufacturing operations.
Key responsibilities
- Ensure full compliance with Malaysian DOE wastewater discharge regulations and standards, manage plant-wide wastewater compliance activities, conduct routine water quality monitoring and self-testing, coordinate annual third-party wastewater testing, prepare and submit environmental reports through the MyPremis system, maintain wastewater discharge records and regulatory documentation, support DOE inspections and audits, and implement corrective actions to achieve zero wastewater discharge violations, zero regulatory penalties, and zero overdue submissions.
- Take full responsibility for the daily operation of wastewater treatment facilities including pretreatment systems, biological treatment systems, sedimentation systems, and advanced treatment systems.
- Adjust process parameters such as chemical dosing, aeration, and sludge return flow based on production wastewater loading.
- Maintain stable control of key wastewater parameters including COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand), and Ammonia Nitrogen (NH₃-N).
- Monitor water quality continuously, investigate abnormal conditions, and implement corrective actions promptly to ensure continuous and stable wastewater treatment performance.
- Perform routine inspections, maintenance, and troubleshooting of wastewater treatment equipment including pumps, blowers, chemical dosing systems, filter presses, and pipelines.
- Establish and maintain equipment maintenance records, chemical consumption records, and sludge disposal records.
- Optimize chemical dosing strategies and equipment operating modes to reduce energy consumption, chemical consumption, and sludge disposal costs.
- Conduct routine inspections to identify environmental risks related to wastewater overflow, pipeline leakage, chemical storage, and sludge storage and handling, and ensure corrective actions are implemented and tracked to closure.
- Lead water conservation, water reuse, and process optimization projects, develop and maintain wastewater SOPs and emergency response plans, and support ISO 14001 internal and external audits and EHS inspections.
