Wastewater Engineer

About the Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Wastewater Engineer to support a leading semiconductor manufacturing facility in Malta, NY.

This position will be responsible for supporting and improving industrial wastewater treatment systems, with a focus on system reliability, preventive maintenance, operational performance, and continuous improvement. The engineer will also support equipment installations, facility upgrades, commissioning, and startup activities.

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with a background in industrial wastewater treatment, chemical engineering, facilities engineering, or semiconductor manufacturing who enjoys owning critical facility systems and solving complex operational challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the operation and reliability of industrial wastewater treatment systems, including copper wastewater treatment systems.
• Serve as a technical resource and system owner for assigned wastewater equipment and processes.
• Develop, implement, and maintain preventive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and system uptime.
• Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for assigned equipment and systems.
• Monitor system performance and analyze operational data to identify opportunities for improvement.
• Utilize Statistical Process Control (SPC) and other monitoring tools to identify and respond to process deviations.
• Troubleshoot equipment and process issues affecting safety, reliability, capacity, or production.
• Support continuous improvement projects focused on safety, reliability, efficiency, and operating cost reduction.
• Review engineering and design packages associated with equipment upgrades, facility expansion, process changes, and reliability improvements.
• Support the installation, commissioning, startup, and qualification of new equipment and systems.
• Coordinate with tool installation and facilities teams to support utility connections and equipment installations.
• Utilize systems such as SAP PM, SPC, and FMCS to support maintenance and facility operations.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an accredited program.
• Approximately 5–10 years of relevant industry experience related to water or wastewater treatment.
• Experience supporting industrial wastewater treatment systems in a manufacturing, processing, or similarly complex industrial environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience within the semiconductor industry or semiconductor fab environment.
• Experience with industrial or copper wastewater treatment systems.
• Experience with preventive maintenance and equipment reliability programs.
• Experience supporting commissioning, equipment installation, and system startup.
• Familiarity with SAP PM, SPC, and/or facilities monitoring and control systems (FMCS).
