Water Maintenance Technician

Job Overview

Under general supervision, performs assignments in the operation, maintenance and repair of electrical and mechanical devices and apparatus at the water plant. Uses a variety of hand and power tools. Operates backhoe, loader, bobcat, and pump, vacuum, and dump trucks. Follows established safety practices and procedures.

Duties

· Performs skilled tasks in the maintenance of water plants, boosters, intakes, storage tanks, valves, piping, pumps, motors, and related equipment and facilities including mechanical and electrical systems.

· Checks status of various equipment as needed.

· Makes equipment adjustments and repairs to maintain operations within predetermined limits.

· Restarts equipment after an electrical outage.

· Identifies and corrects problems such as pump failure, overheated motors, and noisy bearings.

· Assist with installation and repair of electrical panels, starters, lights, heaters, wiring and other electrical devices.

· Repairs and maintains pumps, motors, seals, and bearings.

· Calibrates electrical devices.

· Maintains air-conditioning and heating units.

· Performs preventive maintenance including greasing, oiling, changing belts, tubing, lubricants, etc.

· Cleans and maintains grounds and outside areas.

· Performs lawn work as required, such as mowing, weed eating, trimming, raking, etc.

· Operates hand and power tools, backhoe, trucks, etc.

· Responsible for the care, upkeep and maintenance of tools and equipment.

· Obtains supplies as appropriate.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

· Requires High School graduation, GED or the equivalent, plus 6 to 8 years of experience in electrical and mechanical maintenance or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Must be able to work from construction drawings and wiring diagrams.

· Requires computer skills.

· Requires knowledge of National Electrical Codes.

· Requires knowledge of standard safety precautions and practices

Enviromental Conditions

· May be exposed to biological hazards through contact with raw sewage, methane gas and hydrogen sulfide.

· Will be exposed to all weather conditions and temperature extremes.

· Regularly exposed to such conditions as dirt, dust, oil, grease, and raw sewage.

· Works around noise extremes.

· May be exposed to hazardous chemicals such as chlorine (bleach), fluoride, caustic, and other chemicals.

· May work on slippery or uneven surfaces.

Physical requirements

· Requires frequent physical exertion, including sitting, standing, walking, stooping, climbing, bending, crouching, crawling and kneeling.

· Requires physical strength when manipulating motors, pumps, and other equipment while maintaining and repairing equipment.

· Requires hearing, talking, and both near and far vision.

· Frequently requires depth perception, vision accommodation and color vision.

· Will work with electrical circuits and other machinery hazards.

· Lifting minimum 40 lbs; at times up to 80 lbs and possibly up to 200+ lbs with assistance.

Pay: From $17.50 per hour
