Senior Accessibility Developer / Software Engineer

About the Role

We are looking for a Senior Accessibility Developer / Software Engineer with strong web development skills and hands-on experience in accessibility remediation. The ideal candidate will be responsible for identifying, fixing, and preventing accessibility issues directly in application code to deliver accessible and compliant web experiences.

This role is best suited for an experienced software engineer with strong WCAG knowledge who can implement accessibility solutions, troubleshoot complex issues, and collaborate with engineering and product teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Identify and remediate accessibility issues in existing web applications.
• Implement accessibility support in new and existing features.
• Review application code and ensure accessibility compliance before release.
• Apply WCAG and ADA accessibility standards to web development.
• Use automated accessibility testing tools to identify issues, validate fixes, and improve compliance.
• Resolve accessibility issues involving keyboard navigation, screen readers, semantic HTML, ARIA attributes, focus management, and accessible components.
• Collaborate with developers, product managers, and QA teams to integrate accessibility into the software development lifecycle.
• Troubleshoot complex accessibility defects and implement sustainable solutions.

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of professional software or web development experience.
• Strong hands-on experience with web accessibility development and remediation.
• Strong knowledge of WCAG guidelines and ADA accessibility requirements.
• Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript and TypeScript.
• Experience with modern web development frameworks such as React or Angular.
• Experience with accessibility testing and automation tools.
• Ability to troubleshoot, modify, and improve application code to resolve accessibility issues.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with accessibility tools such as axe DevTools, WAVE, Lighthouse, or similar solutions.
• Knowledge of ARIA, semantic HTML, keyboard accessibility, and screen-reader compatibility.
• Experience integrating accessibility best practices into CI/CD pipelines and development workflows.

What We're Looking For

We are specifically seeking a hands-on software engineer who can develop accessible web applications and fix accessibility issues directly in the code . Candidates whose experience is primarily limited to accessibility testing, auditing, or compliance reporting may not be the right fit.
