Web Developer

About the role

You will develop and support new features for our e-commerce platform mainly using React, Next.js and TypeScript, work across the stack — the APIs, databases and search behind the storefront, not just the interface — and provide security for all customer data in Australia and across the globe. Reporting directly to our Senior Web Developer or the CTO, and working closely with our back-end developers and testers, you will be an essential member of a small and passionate team working in a fast-paced and agile environment. We are currently replatforming onto a modern headless commerce stack — React, Next.js, TypeScript, Node and PostgreSQL — so you will be building on new foundations rather than maintaining an ageing codebase.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and support features of our e-commerce platform, across the front end and the services behind it
• Maintain our front-end infrastructure and provide security for all customer data in Australia and across the globe
• Manage cases and tasks on a daily basis, providing end-user support, working on configuration changes, bug fixes and minor enhancements
• Interact and work with other developers, departments or stakeholders to ensure solutions are developed to work as expected, consistently and securely
• Raise security concerns about software systems or technology infrastructure
• Maintain the integrity and security of all systems when changes are required
• Conduct research into industry best practices and incorporate those practices into your work
• Incorporate industry best practice security and privacy into any software developed
• Adhere to all company systems, policies, and procedures, including OHS and fire safety

About you

• Outstanding use of AI tools and flexibility to adapt
• Proven experience building interfaces with React and TypeScript (commercial experience, internship work, or substantial personal/open-source projects all count)
• Solid HTML5, CSS and modern styling (Tailwind CSS)
• Experience consuming REST APIs from a front-end application, and confidence reading and writing SQL
• Genuine willingness to work across the stack — front end, back-end services and databases — rather than staying inside one specialisation
• Daily use of AI-assisted development tooling (AI coding assistants, automated code review), with full responsibility for understanding, testing, and defending AI-generated code
• Ability to take direction and then run with it independently, with clear priorities and structured process support
• Ability to discuss tasks and requirements at a high level and work with team members to find the best solution, with excellent communication skills both written and oral
• Awareness of web application security basics — authentication, session handling, input validation, handling customer data — and the judgement to ask when unsure
• Strong focus on writing easy to read code, high performance, tests and maintainability, and in-depth hands-on knowledge of version control systems (Git)
