Web Developer Intern

High Five Media is looking for a Web Developer Intern to build, launch, and maintain websites for our clients, with the opportunity to move into a full-time position.

OVERVIEW

This internship provides on-site web development services to deliver cohesive, consistent, quality work to our clients. Duties of this position will include building new client websites, maintaining and updating existing websites, domain and server support, AI-powered features for client sites, and troubleshooting. This position requires up to 30 hours per week and the ability to hit the "Go Live Gong" when necessary.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Understand the vision of a project for various clients by referencing the client brief
• Build new client websites in Next.js from design to launch
• Maintain, update, and fix existing client websites, including older PHP and WordPress sites
• Turn Figma designs or client ideas into finished websites
• Launch websites to production and handle any issues that come up after launch
• Provide domain, DNS, hosting, and email record support, including moving sites between hosts
• Work on servers through SSH/PuTTY, SFTP, and AWS
• Keep client websites secure, updated, and backed up, and clean up hacked sites
• Build AI features and automations into client websites
• Set up Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager, Google Search Console, and SEO best practices on client websites
• Estimate how long tasks will take and meet those deadlines
• Communicate project details effectively to High Five Account Managers in a timely manner
• Provide status reports on web development projects to the Project Manager

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

• Strong coding skills in Next.js, React, JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS required
• Proficiency in PHP and WordPress required
• Working knowledge of SQL databases and Git
• Proficiency in Squarespace, Wix, GoDaddy Website Builder, Shopify, or related platforms
• Knowledge of AI, including AI coding tools, AI APIs, and AI automation tools
• Understanding of server-side development: SSH/PuTTY, SFTP, Linux command line, and server configuration
• Experience with AWS or other cloud hosting
• Experience launching websites to production
• Understanding of domains, DNS, and email records
• Understanding of website security, updates, and backups
• Understanding of SEO best practices and Google Analytics
• Experience with e-commerce and payments (WooCommerce, Shopify, Stripe)
• Strong project management skills
• Thrive in fast-paced environments, managing multiple projects and deadlines
• Outstanding communication and writing skills
• Creative, innovative, self-motivated, and organized
• Ability to speak tactfully with clients under occasionally stressful circumstances
• Experience with Mac OS
• Must be able to establish and build relationships with coworkers appropriately
• Good taste in music and the ability to wield a game controller is also a plus

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in computer science, web development, software engineering, or a related field preferred. If not enrolled in or graduated from a program in the above fields, equivalent experience building websites is required. All applicants must provide a portfolio of live websites they have built and a link to their code (GitHub or similar).

COMPANY GENERAL POLICY & PROCEDURE

High Five Media maintains normal working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. Should an employee have any questions or need to make changes to their regular work schedule, the employee should contact their supervisor. High Five Media requests that all work be done in the High Five Media office. Only on rare occasions, with supervisor/partner approval, will an employee be able to work outside the office.
