Website Developer

Location: Remote (We're Australian-born but operate as a remote-first company with team members across Australia, New Zealand, and the Philippines)

About the role

The Website Developer is responsible for the ongoing development, enhancement and technical optimisation of client websites. Working primarily across WordPress, with exposure to Webflow and Silverstripe, the role develops new pages, components and reusable solutions within existing websites, troubleshoots technical issues, and implements technical SEO and performance improvements. The role works closely with the Technical, SEO and Development teams to deliver reliable, maintainable and high-quality website solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and enhance existing WordPress websites, including new pages, templates, themes, plugins and Gutenberg blocks.
• Develop reusable components and solutions that can be efficiently applied across multiple websites.
• Complete development and enhancements within Webflow and Silverstripe websites as required.
• Translate supplied designs and requirements into responsive, accessible and high-quality website implementations.
• Implement technical SEO recommendations, including schema, crawlability, indexability, redirects and other technical fixes.
• Investigate and troubleshoot website issues, including supporting technical diagnosis through website crawls and other relevant tools.
• Identify and implement website performance and Core Web Vitals improvements.
• Understand existing website structures and codebases and make changes in a way that minimises risk and maintains existing functionality.
• Test and QA development across relevant browsers and devices, considering functionality, accessibility, SEO and performance.
• Complete ongoing website maintenance, updates and content publishing as required.

About you

• Strong WordPress development experience.

• Experience with custom WordPress themes, plugins, Gutenberg blocks and reusable components.

• Strong HTML and CSS skills, with working knowledge of JavaScript and PHP within WordPress.

• Strong troubleshooting, debugging and problem-solving capabilities.

• Ability to understand and safely modify existing websites and codebases developed by others.

• Ability to take a technical requirement or problem, investigate it and determine an appropriate implementation.

• Understanding of responsive development, accessibility and cross-browser compatibility.

• Experience with Git/version control and safe website deployment practices.

• Understanding of technical SEO principles and their implementation.

• Understanding of website performance and Core Web Vitals.
