About Fennes

Fennes is an exclusive-use wedding and events venue set within a beautiful Georgian manor house and 100 acres of picturesque Essex countryside. Part of The Tabor Group, we pride ourselves on creating exceptional weddings and events, combining outstanding hospitality with warm, professional service and meticulous attention to detail.

We are looking for an experienced, enthusiastic and personable Wedding & Events Manager to join our team.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who loves bringing events to life, thrives in a busy hospitality environment and takes genuine pride in creating unforgettable experiences.

The Role

As a Wedding & Events Manager, you will play a key role in planning, coordinating and delivering weddings, corporate events and private functions at Fennes.

This is a varied, hands-on position combining event planning, administration, operational management and client engagement. You will build strong relationships with couples and clients, coordinate arrangements across departments and work alongside the Food & Beverage Manager to coordinate the event team during functions.

Planning responsibilities are shared across the wedding team from the initial booking stage. Four months before each wedding, a dedicated Wedding & Events Manager is allocated to take ownership of the final planning arrangements and wedding-day delivery.

You will manage multiple events simultaneously, ensuring every client receives a personal, attentive and professional service.

Beyond event delivery, you will also have opportunities to contribute creatively to the venue's social media presence, support business development and help improve operational processes and standards.

Key Responsibilities (not limited to):

  • Support couples throughout their wedding planning journey, sharing responsibilities across the team before taking ownership of allocated weddings four months prior to the event.
  • Plan and coordinate corporate events and private functions, acting as the main point of contact for clients.
  • Conduct planning meetings, confirming event requirements including timings, guest numbers, menus, dietary requirements, drinks, layouts and supplier arrangements.
  • Ensure planning deadlines are met, outstanding decisions are followed up and all event documentation is accurate and up to date.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed running orders, event records and pre- and post-event paperwork, including feedback, incident and damage reporting.
  • Communicate event arrangements and amendments clearly and promptly to all relevant departments, ensuring everyone is fully briefed.
  • Oversee event preparation, venue set-up and the successful delivery of weddings, corporate events and private functions.
  • Act as a visible, approachable and professional point of contact throughout events, ensuring couples, clients and guests receive exceptional service.
  • Work alongside the Food & Beverage Manager to brief, coordinate and supervise event staff, maintaining high standards of presentation, hospitality and service.
  • Manage event timings, coordinate suppliers, anticipate requirements and resolve last-minute challenges calmly and professionally.
  • Provide comprehensive handovers to evening supervisors, ensuring continuity of service and clear communication of outstanding arrangements.
  • Support staff training and development to maintain consistent service standards.
  • Oversee event-related health, safety and compliance requirements, ensuring procedures are followed, required checks and records are completed, and hazards or incidents are addressed or escalated appropriately.
  • Identify and promote suitable upgrades, enhancements and additional services that improve the client experience and contribute to revenue targets.
  • Work towards agreed sales and performance objectives, helping maximise event profitability while maintaining exceptional service standards.
  • Support the sales team during venue open days and evenings, welcoming prospective couples, answering questions and showcasing Fennes.
  • Coordinate clients' bar and tab arrangements and undertake cash handling and cashing-up duties in accordance with venue procedures.
  • Assist with front-of-house equipment checks, stocktaking and identifying stock or ordering requirements.
  • Act as a warm, friendly and enthusiastic ambassador for Fennes, creating memorable first impressions, building positive relationships with couples, guests and suppliers, and showcasing the venue with professionalism, confidence and personality.
  • Play an active and creative role in showcasing life at Fennes, capturing behind-the-scenes moments, venue highlights and engaging event-day content for social media.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team, photographers, videographers and influencers to create and share exciting content across the venue's social media platforms, in accordance with brand guidelines and client permissions.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency, consistency, productivity and service delivery across the venue.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and management to develop, implement and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), operational guidelines, working practices, templates, checklists and reporting tools.
  • Utilise quieter, off-peak periods to streamline administrative processes, improve operational standards and ensure the venue is fully prepared for peak-season demands.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who combines excellent organisational skills with a genuine passion for weddings, hospitality and delivering memorable experiences.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A minimum of two years' experience in wedding and events management or coordination, ideally within a wedding venue or hospitality environment.
  • Proven experience in both planning events and managing their successful delivery.
  • Excellent organisational, administrative and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple events and competing priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to liaise effectively with clients, colleagues and external suppliers.
  • The ability to confidently coordinate and support event staff, working collaboratively with the Food & Beverage Manager while remaining calm and professional under pressure.
  • A proactive, hands-on approach, with the ability to anticipate requirements, solve problems and see tasks through to completion.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining exceptional service standards.
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office and experience using booking or event management systems.
  • Confidence in handling figures, cash transactions and accurate recordkeeping.
  • Commercial awareness and the confidence to recommend appropriate upgrades and additional services.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify inefficiencies, contribute practical ideas and help develop effective operational procedures.
  • A warm, approachable and enthusiastic personality, with a genuine passion for creating outstanding guest experiences.
  • A creative outlook and an interest in contributing to social media content and venue promotion.
  • A collaborative, supportive attitude, combined with the confidence to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
  • Willingness to undertake an in-person three-day first aid training course and renew the qualification every three years.
  • The ability to travel reliably to and from our rural venue for varying shift times.
