About Branxholm Park
Branxholm Park is a family-run, luxury exclusive-use wedding venue near Hawick in the Scottish Borders. Our private country-house setting hosts weddings, guest stays, viewings and events. We are a small, warm and professional team who care about our guests and take pride in keeping the house beautifully presented.
A varied role across the venue
Join our wedding team, learn different aspects of how the venue operates and help across Front of House and Housekeeping depending on what is happening that day. You might prepare the house before guests arrive, work a changeover shift, help with breakfast or serve guests at a wedding on another day.
You do not need experience in every area. We can train the right person: reliability, a positive attitude, clear communication and willingness to learn matter more than an extensive CV. Being comfortable across both departments can create more opportunities to pick up shifts, although hours are not guaranteed.
Front of House and wedding service
- Welcome guests, help them around the venue and respond warmly to requests.
- Set up breakfast areas and maintain the breakfast bar.
- Prepare and tidy social spaces and other guest-facing areas.
- Serve drinks, canapés and wedding meals; support dinner and bar service.
- Clear plates and glasses, clear and reset tables, and help reset rooms.
- Support the Wedding Manager and the wider team with set-up, service and close-down, passing on any important guest requests.
- Keep guest areas presentable throughout the day and adapt calmly when plans change.
Wedding service can be busy, energetic and fast-moving. You will need to move efficiently, communicate with the team, stay calm and be ready to help where needed. Duties will be allocated with appropriate training and supervision, taking account of any age restrictions.
Housekeeping, preparation and changeovers
- Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens and social areas.
- Make beds, replenish guest supplies and prepare accommodation for arrivals.
- Vacuum, mop, dust, clean surfaces and empty bins.
- Reset rooms and help with wedding venue changeovers before arrivals and after departures.
- Follow cleaning checklists, complete final presentation checks and report damage, stains, missing items or maintenance problems.
- Work efficiently during time-sensitive changeovers, independently when required and as part of the wider team.
Housekeeping is predominantly daytime work, with weekday and weekend shifts around departures, arrivals, weddings and viewings. Evening work is not normally required for housekeeping.
Pay, hours and shifts
Pay is £13.50 per hour for staff aged 18 and over and £9.00 per hour for staff under 18. This is a part-time employed role on a zero-hours contract. Expected hours are 1–25 per week, but hours are not guaranteed and some weeks may have no work available.
Work varies with weddings, guest stays, events, viewings, changeovers and venue requirements. Wedding dates are generally known months ahead, and rotas are normally organised 1–2 weeks in advance. Additional housekeeping or changeover work can arise at shorter notice depending on bookings.
You are not expected to accept every shift offered. We particularly value people who can offer a mixture of weekday and weekend availability and enjoy helping across the venue.
Example Front of House shifts include 8am–1pm for breakfast/set-up, 12pm–8pm or 1pm–8pm for wedding service. For staff aged 18 and over, some longer wedding shifts may run 8am–8pm or 1pm–1am. These are examples only, with breaks and shift lengths arranged appropriately. Under-18 shifts will be scheduled within the applicable working-time and rest limits; under-18s will not be expected to work until 1am.
What we are looking for
Friendly, dependable and punctual people who are warm with guests, presentable for Front of House service and attentive to detail when cleaning. You should communicate well, follow instructions and checklists, work independently when required and contribute to a small team. We value people who turn up for agreed shifts and communicate promptly if there is a problem.
The work includes cleaning, clearing, carrying and busy service, so you should be comfortable with practical, physical work and a changing pace. A willingness to learn and do both Front of House and Housekeeping is essential.
Experience in hospitality, hotels, restaurants, bars, weddings, events, catering, customer service, housekeeping, holiday lets, Airbnb cleaning, care homes or commercial cleaning is useful, but not essential for the right person. Formal qualifications are not required.
Transport
Due to our rural location and the nature of the shifts, applicants must have access to their own car or reliable private transport.
Branxholm Park is difficult to access reliably by public transport, particularly for early starts, late wedding finishes, weekend shifts, changeovers and short-notice cover. Relying solely on public transport is unlikely to meet the requirements of the role.
There is no live-in staff accommodation. Travel expenses are not paid, and staff are responsible for travelling to and from Branxholm Park. Free on-site parking is available.
Why join us?
Enjoy varied work in a beautiful Scottish Borders venue, look after wedding guests and learn how different parts of a wedding venue work together. No two weddings are exactly the same. With training and support, there is an opportunity to become a regular, trusted member of our team and build experience across the venue.
Pay: £9.00-£13.50 per hour
Benefits:
- Free parking
- On-site parking
