What they need

WEEKEND COOK Department: Kitchen Reports To: Executive Chef / Kitchen Leadership Employment Type: Part-Time Primary Schedule: Thursday/Friday–Sunday, with a focus on weekend coverage POSITION SUMMARY The Weekend Cook is an important part of the Westsider kitchen team, responsible for executing consistent, high-quality food while helping maintain a clean, organized, and positive kitchen environment during our busiest service periods. This position is ideal for someone who takes pride in their work, shows up consistently, communicates well, and wants to become a stronger cook and member of the team. You don't need to know everything on day one—we are looking for someone who is willing to learn, accept coaching, and continually improve. At Westsider, how you work matters just as much as what you cook. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Food Preparation & Execution - Prepare and cook menu items according to Westsider recipes, standards, and specifications. - Maintain consistency in portioning, presentation, seasoning, and quality. - Properly execute breakfast and lunch/dinner menu items during high-volume service. - Maintain an organized and properly stocked station throughout service. - Communicate clearly with the kitchen team regarding tickets, timing, shortages, and special requests. - Follow all food safety, sanitation, and temperature-control procedures. Kitchen Operations - Arrive on time and ready to work. - Complete opening, closing, and station side work thoroughly. - Maintain a clean and organized work area throughout the shift—not just at the end of service. - Properly rotate, label, store, and handle food. - Help with prep, dishwashing, stocking, cleaning, and other kitchen duties when needed. - Treat Westsider equipment, ingredients, and facilities with care. Teamwork & Culture - Work respectfully and professionally with both kitchen and front-of-house team members. - Accept direction and coaching from kitchen leadership. - Ask questions when unsure rather than guessing. - Help teammates when your station is under control. - Contribute to a positive kitchen environment, especially during stressful or high-volume services. - Take ownership of mistakes and work with leadership to correct them. WHAT WE LOOK FOR Reliability - Consistent attendance and punctuality are essential. - Weekend availability is a major part of this position. Work Ethic - Willingness to work hard and contribute wherever needed. - Doesn't wait to be told every next step. - Understands that cleaning, prep, stocking, and organization are part of being a good cook. Coachability - Open to feedback and willing to learn Westsider's systems and standards. - Able to receive constructive criticism without taking it personally. - Demonstrates improvement over time. Kitchen Awareness - Understands basic food safety and sanitation. - Can prioritize tasks during busy service. - Communicates effectively with the rest of the kitchen team. Team Mentality - Supports teammates instead of creating additional work for them. - Maintains professionalism when the kitchen gets busy. - Understands that everyone is responsible for the success of the shift. EXPERIENCE Previous professional kitchen experience is preferred but not required. We are willing to train the right person. Attitude, reliability, work ethic, and coachability matter more to us than having years of experience. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Ability to stand and work for extended periods. - Ability to lift and carry typical kitchen supplies and equipment. - Ability to work in a hot, fast-paced kitchen environment. - Ability to safely perform repetitive tasks such as chopping, lifting, reaching, bending, and carrying. SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE LOOKS LIKE A successful Weekend Cook: - Shows up consistently and on time. - Keeps their station clean, stocked, and organized. - Produces food that meets Westsider standards. - Communicates before problems become bigger problems. - Helps the team without being asked. - Takes coaching seriously. - Can be trusted to do the job correctly when leadership isn't standing over them. - Leaves the kitchen in better shape than they found it. OPPORTUNITY FOR GROWTH Westsider is growing, and we believe in developing our people. Strong performance in this position can lead to additional responsibility, increased hours, cross-training, and advancement into leadership positions such as Lead Cook, Weekend Leader, Sous Chef, or Assistant Kitchen Manager. THE WESTSIDER STANDARD Show up. Work hard. Take care of your team. Take pride in your food. Keep learning. That's what we're looking for.
