Role at a glance
Job title: Weekend Maintenance Technician
Hours: 16 hours per week: Saturday and Sunday, 8 Hours per day
Reports to: Head of Maintenance
Purpose of the role
To keep the hotel and apartments safe, working and looking their best across the weekend, when guest occupancy is high and weekday maintenance cover is off. You will be the go-to person for reactive repairs at The Laslett, complete planned maintenance tasks, and support the serviced apartments when issues arise, so guests have a 5 Star experience.
Key responsibilities
Reactive maintenance
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from Front Office, Housekeeping and guests, prioritising anything affecting guest safety, comfort or room availability.
- Diagnose and fix general faults: leaking taps and toilets, blocked drains, silicone and grouting, doors, locks, hinges, furniture, curtains and blinds.
- Carry out minor electrical tasks within competence: replacing bulbs, fuses, plugs and fittings, resetting trips, and reporting anything beyond scope to the duty management and maintenance team.
- Troubleshoot in-room equipment: TVs, kettles, safes, phones, key-card locks, heating and air-conditioning controls.
- Get out-of-order rooms back into service quickly, keeping Front Office updated on room status throughout the shift.
Planned and preventive maintenance
- Complete scheduled tasks from the planned preventive maintenance (PPM) programme left by the weekday team.
- Carry out room inspections and checks on rooms and apartments as directed.
- Touch up paintwork, fill and decorate small areas, keep corridors, public areas and back-of-house spaces in good repair.
Serviced apartments
- Attend Living Rooms apartment buildings when needed for urgent repairs, check-in issues or access problems.
- Log time and work completed at each property.
Communication and records
- Record all jobs, parts used and outstanding issues on the maintenance log
- Hand over clearly to the weekday maintenance team as follows: completed, in progress and anything needing a contractor or further investigation.
- Speak with guests courteously and discreetly when working in occupied areas.
Workshop, tools and stock
- Keep the workshop clean, safe and organised.
- Monitor stock of common spares (bulbs, batteries, fixings, sealant) and flag reorders.
- Look after company tools and equipment.
General
- Support the Duty Managers and Operations Managers with any reasonable operational task during the weekend.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties in line with the role.
Health, safety and compliance
- Follow all health and safety policies, risk assessments and safe systems of work, including the lone working procedure.
- Carry out and record weekend compliance checks as scheduled, such as weekly fire alarm test, emergency lighting checks and water temperature / flushing checks for Legionella control when requested.
- Respond to fire alarm activations alongside the Duty Manager and support evacuation procedures.
- Use permits to work, isolation and lock-off procedures where required, and wear PPE correctly.
- Work only within your competence: gas work must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer and electrical work beyond minor tasks by a qualified electrician. Escalate these to the on-call manager or approved contractor.
- Report hazards, accidents and near misses immediately and record them correctly.
- Follow COSHH guidance for any chemicals, paints and adhesives used.
