Weekend Play Café Manager

Sundays | 7–8 hours per week

We’re a small, family-run play café looking for a warm, confident and reliable person to take the lead at our venue on Sundays.

At times, this is a solo role in a small venue, so you’ll be trusted to run the café independently - welcoming families, preparing food and drinks, hosting parties, and keeping the space clean, safe and happy. At other times, you will manage and support our friendly Play Café Assistant.

About the role

You’ll be responsible for the smooth, safe and spotlessly clean running of the café during weekend sessions. As this can be a solo role, attention to detail and pride in cleanliness are essential.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Welcoming families in a warm, friendly and professional manner
• Preparing and serving coffees and light lunches to a high standard
• Maintaining excellent levels of cleanliness throughout the day — including tables, floors, surfaces, toilets and high-touch areas
• Regularly checking, tidying and resetting play areas between sessions so they remain clean, safe and inviting
• Setting up for and hosting children’s parties, ensuring spaces are clean and well-presented at all times
• Clearing tables promptly and keeping the café looking calm and cared for, even during busy periods
• Completing thorough end-of-day cleaning, including hoovering, cleaning toilets, emptying bins and leaving the venue ready for the next session

Cleanliness and presentation are a top priority for our business, so this role suits someone who naturally notices the small details and takes pride in keeping a space organised, hygienic and welcoming.

About you

• Previous café or hospitality experience highly desirable
• Experience working with children is desirable, or personal experience caring for children (such as having children of your own)
• Friendly, calm and highly reliable
• Confident working independently
• Comfortable in a busy, family-focused environment
• Excellent people skills and able to handle pressure with a smile

Additional availability (highly desirable):

• Flexibility to work additional hours during school holidays, with availability for a minimum of two days per week during holiday periods.

This role may particularly suit someone with a term-time job, a university student, or someone looking to supplement existing work with additional hours during weekend and school holidays.

Training & checks

The successful applicant will be required to complete:

• Level 2 Food Hygiene
• First Aid training
• Enhanced DBS check (we’ll support you with this)
