What they need
Weekend Supervisor
Camellia House Trust | Palmerston North
Make your weekends meaningful!
Are you someone who loves connecting with people, making a difference and being part of something that genuinely matters?
Camellia House Trust is looking for a Weekend Supervisor to join our team and help create a safe, welcoming and supportive home for women and their children.
Camellia House provides short- to mid-term accommodation for wāhine and their tamariki who need somewhere safe to stay while they work towards more stable and independent futures.
This is a hands-on, people-focused role where every weekend is different. You’ll get to know the women living at Camellia House, support them through their daily routines, have plenty of variety in your work and play an important part in creating a positive atmosphere within the house.
What you’ll be doing
As Weekend Supervisor, you’ll be one of the familiar faces around the house, helping things run smoothly and ensuring residents feel supported, respected and safe.
You’ll build positive relationships with residents, offer practical support and encouragement, and help with the everyday routines of the house. This could mean helping prepare dinner, supporting residents with cleaning responsibilities, making sure shared spaces are looked after or simply being there for a conversation and some encouragement when it’s needed.
You’ll also help prepare rooms for new residents, complete scheduled cleaning duties and keep clear, concise notes about residents after each shift. Good communication is important, as you’ll regularly keep the Operations Manager up to date with what’s happening in the house and any matters that may need follow-up.
We’re looking for someone who can bring warmth and positivity while also being confident enough to maintain appropriate boundaries and respond calmly when situations are challenging.
What we’re looking for
You might have experience in social services, community work, youth work, residential support or a similar environment, but we’re just as interested in your attitude, values and life experience.
You’ll be someone who is approachable, reliable and naturally good at building relationships. You’ll be practical, organised and happy to roll up your sleeves and get involved. You’ll understand the importance of confidentiality, professional boundaries and treating every person with dignity and respect.
Most importantly, you’ll genuinely want to see women succeed and will enjoy being part of a team that helps make that possible.
The hours
This is a part-time weekend position with the following roster:
Friday: 4.00pm – 9.00pm
Saturday: 1.00pm – 8.00pm
Sunday: 3.30pm – 8.30pm
These rostered days can be negotiated with the other supervisor when necessary, with reasonable notice. There may also be opportunities to cover additional shifts.
What we offer
This is a chance to join a small, passionate team where the work you do has a real and visible impact.
We offer a supportive and values-driven workplace, Employee Assistance Programme (EAP), opportunities to build meaningful relationships with residents and the chance to be part of a team that is helping women and children move towards brighter, more independent futures.
You’ll never know exactly what a weekend at Camellia House will bring — and that’s part of what makes the role so rewarding!
A few essentials
You’ll need a current New Zealand driver's licence, and police vetting is required for the position.
At Camellia House, we believe every woman has strengths, abilities and potential. Our role is to create an environment where women feel safe, supported and empowered to take their next steps.
If you’re energetic, compassionate, practical and ready to make a genuine difference, we’d love to hear from you!
Apply now with your CV and cover letter telling us a little about yourself and why you’d love to join the Camellia House team.
