Welder - 2nd Shift

As a Maintenance Shift member at Metalico on 2nd shift, you will be asked to perform solely or with the other members on projects such as conveyor belt changes, bearing switch outs, burn / weld / fabricate pieces needed for our mill, some heavy equipment operation, as well as some general labor tasks. Must follow our safety policies and safe operating procedures at all times. Must be able to work in a drug free workplace. Other tasks are expected to be completed as assigned.

Essential Job Functions

• Competent in using equipment following all safety precautions.
• A steady hand and great attention to detail.
• Knowledge of different kinds of metal and their properties is essential.
• Read drawings and take or read measurements to plan and execute design.
• Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
• Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g., cut material with powered saws to match measurements).
• Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
• Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
• Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead).
• Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps.
• Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws.
• Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety.
• Will perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must be safety-oriented and exhibit safe work habits.
• High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years welding experience, will be required to pass a welding test.
• Must be able to read tape measure and calipers.
• Knowledgeable in stick and mig type welding processes.
• Knowledgeable in use of oxygen and acetylene/propane cutting torch, carbon air arc and plasma cutter experience is a plus.
• Basic mechanical skills.
• Experience with basic hand tools.
• Ability to work inside or outside as required.

Work Environment

• Exposure to elements and / or non-climate-controlled environment where temperature and weather extremes (heat, cold, rain) may be encountered.
• Work may take place in an industrial environment, with noise, dust and fumes.
• Noise level in the work environment is moderate; hearing protection is always provided to employees by the company.

Work Hours

Hours of Operation – Monday thru Friday 4:00 pm – 1:30 am, Saturdays and overtime as scheduled. Schedule is subject to change to facilitate business and production needs.
