Welder Fabricator Apprentice

CLL is looking for a motivated Apprentice Welder Fabricator to join our team at our Kumeu workshop, with work on project sites across New Zealand when needed. You'll work alongside our experienced welder fabricators, learning the trade on structures and heavy machinery components that mainly support our piling operations. We'll support you through a formal apprenticeship while you earn.

What you'll be doing

• Assisting with the layout, fit-up and assembly of structures and heavy machinery components
• Learning MIG and Stick welding on a range of materials, under supervision
• Helping repair plant while learning oxy-acetylene, arc, plasma cutting, MIG and TIG
• Measuring, cutting, grinding and preparing materials
• Learning to read technical drawings, specs and instructions
• Keeping the welding bay clean, organised and stocked, and keeping QA records
• Completing your apprenticeship study, assessments and logbook

What we're looking for

• A keen attitude to learn and a strong work ethic
• Reliable and punctual
• Mechanically minded with good hand-eye coordination
• Good basic maths and accurate measuring skills
• Some welding or workshop experience is a bonus, but not essential
• Comfortable working in both workshop and on-site environments
• A current driver licence, or working towards one
• A commitment to completing the NZ Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Trade) (Level 4), Fabrication strand
• A strong commitment to health and safety
