What they need

Role Summary

The Welder handles “major” repairs — by definition, anything on a cart that needs welding or a full frame replacement. That's roughly 7–8% of all carts coming through the shop (about 5–6% welding, 1–2% full frame replacement); a single weld spot is enough to code a cart as a major.

This is straightforward structural MIG welding — bend-and-reweld repairs and, less often, full frame rebuilds — done indoors, at high volume, against a repeatable process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take carts flagged as majors by Repair Technicians at a dedicated majors staging area, separate from the minor-repair cells.
  • Repair bent and broken side frames and caster mounts: straighten with a mini-sledge and pry bar, bring welding points as close together as possible, ground the cart, grind the weld area, tack weld to hold, then complete the full weld.
  • Prefer repair-and-reuse over full replacement whenever the frame allows — a bend-and-reweld runs about 10 minutes versus roughly an hour for a full frame replacement (unbolt everything, rebuild from the skeleton).
  • Cool the weld area, wire-brush it clean, unhook the ground wire, and send the cart back to a supercell for final adjustments and reassembly.
  • Log welded repairs in the tracking app so majors are counted and billed correctly, separate from minor repairs.
  • Maintain welding equipment and work area to a safe standard; follow PPE and fire-safety practices for indoor MIG welding.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Solid MIG welding experience. Certification is a plus, not a requirement — the interview is a weld test: you weld for us, we look at it.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Able to pass a drug test and a physical.
  • Able to work on your feet for a full shift in an indoor shop environment.

Tools & Equipment

Fully furnished, including the MIG welder (Fabricator 2) and all welding equipment, angle grinder with cutting and grinding discs, and a hydraulic ram for straightening.
