WELDER FABRICATOR

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the intricate work of design, fabrication, assembling and welding of various parts as needed. The welder fabricator works and maintains an area of the shop and is also responsible for traveling to job sites for welding, repairs and fabrication of parts as needed.

CHARACTERISTIC JOB TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

§ Welding metal parts in various directions: flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead, etc.

§ Igniting flame or striking an arc while welding or performing other electricity-related work to weld part of a metal structure.

§ Assessing and identifying any fault in operating the equipment or in relation to any material or equipment, then notifying the supervisors.

§ Clamping, holding, tack-welding, heat-bending, bolting, or grinding spare parts as necessary to satisfy the technical requirements and create a welded final product.

§ Operating various equipment and performing tasks necessary for welding metal, such as fusing metal segments, using gas tungsten arc, metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, and other types of welding arcs.

§ Applying safety practice and utilizing safety equipment at work while performing

specified duties.

§ Control the processes of fitting, burning and welding to avoid problems in relation to overheat, distortion, expansion or shrink of metal parts.

§ Make repairs and modifications to equipment and parts as needed.

§ Examining finish products to ensure quality, strength and accuracy of angles and measurements.

§ Being in charge of preparing and setting up necessary tools and equipment for welding job such as shielded metal arc, gas metal arc or other welding equipment

§ Arranging and assuring the welded parts to be arranged in order before being assembled into final products using such tools as square, caliper or ruler for this task.

§ Cutting and burning of various metals including steel, stainless, brazing, aluminum, etc.

§ Familiar with drill presses, lathes, brakes, shears, etc.

§ Quality workmanship is required.

§ Safe handling, use and storage of welding gases.

§ All other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

It is a requirement to have strong math skills, geometry in particular, with the ability to work in various scales and units. One must have the ability to communicate effectively and to interpret verbal descriptions of parts and ideas. Lifting heavy objects up to and beyond thirty pounds and working in different positions (under equipment, overhead, bent over, etc.) will be necessary. Must interpret blueprints, plans, schematics and shop drawings and be able to apply their knowledge to part fabrication. Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol examination and possess a valid driver’s license. High school diploma or equivalency is required.

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
