- Read and interpret P&IDs, piping isometrics, equipment layouts, fabrication drawings, and weld symbols.
- Measure, lay out, cut, bevel, prepare, and fit pipe and fittings for welding.
- Determine pipe lengths, offsets, angles, elevations, and fitting orientations from drawings and field measurements.
- Fit and install pipe, elbows, tees, reducers, flanges, valves, supports, and related piping components.
- Install and align piping connections to tanks, pumps, valves, meters, manifolds, and other process equipment.
- Verify proper piping alignment, slope, elevation, flange orientation, clearances, and accessibility.
- Identify field conflicts and assist in developing practical installation solutions.
- Support new tank installations, piping tie-ins, equipment modifications, and plant expansion projects.
Welding & Fabrication
- Perform pipe and fabrication welding using SMAW/Stick, GTAW/TIG, GMAW/MIG, and/or FCAW as required.
- Perform welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
- Prepare and fit weld joints while maintaining proper alignment, root gaps, and joint preparation.
- Set up and safely operate welding machines and associated equipment.
- Fabricate and repair piping, pipe supports, brackets, platforms, and miscellaneous plant equipment.
- Safely operate oxy-fuel torches, plasma cutters, saws, grinders, and pipe preparation equipment.
Quality & Safety
- Follow company and site-specific safety procedures, including hot work, lockout/tagout, confined-space, and elevated-work requirements.
- Properly use required PPE and maintain tools, welding equipment, and work areas in safe working conditions.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping of all work areas.
- Inspect completed welds and piping installations for workmanship, defects, alignment, and compliance with project requirements.
- Assist with pressure testing, leak testing, flushing, and commissioning installed piping when required.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Strong industrial pipefitting, pipe layout, and pipe welding skills.
- Ability to independently measure, lay out, fit, fabricate, and install industrial piping.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, piping isometrics, fabrication drawings, equipment layouts, and weld symbols.
- Knowledge of common industrial piping components, including pipe, fittings, flanges, valves, pumps, meters, and pipe supports.
- Proficiency with SMAW/Stick and GTAW/TIG preferred; GMAW/MIG and FCAW experience beneficial.
- Strong understanding of weld preparation, fit-up, joint alignment, and welding techniques.
- Ability to use standard layout and measurement tools and perform basic shop mathematics.
- Ability to safely operate grinders, saws, torches, plasma cutters, and related fabrication equipment.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Welding, pipefitting, industrial maintenance, or trade-school education preferred.
- 5+ years of industrial pipefitting and/or pipe welding experience highly preferred.
- Experience with tank farms, bulk liquid handling systems, chemical plants, lubricant facilities, terminals, refineries, or similar industrial environments is highly desirable.
- Candidates should be able to demonstrate pipefitting and welding competency through experience and/or a practical skills test.
