Welder / Sheet Metal Technician

Overview

We are seeking a skilled, certified Welder / Sheet Metal Technician to join our fabrication and construction team. This position involves welding, sheet metal fabrication, and HVAC duct installation in shop and field environments. The ideal candidate takes pride in quality workmanship, reads technical drawings accurately, and works safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, duct layouts, and fabrication shop drawings.
• Perform MIG, TIG, FCAW, and SMAW welding according to project requirements and applicable American Welding Society (AWS) standards.
• Measure, mark, cut, form, and assemble sheet metal components, including ductwork, fittings, transitions, and plenums.
• Install HVAC ductwork, fittings, hangers, supports, and related sheet metal components according to project drawings and specifications.
• Fit, align, connect, and seal duct sections to ensure proper installation.
• Use plasma cutters, brakes, shears, grinders, power tools, and hand tools safely and effectively.
• Inspect completed work for dimensional accuracy, fit, weld quality, and proper duct connections.
• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
• Coordinate with shop personnel, field crews, and other trades to meet project schedules.

Required Qualifications

• Must be a certified welder.
• Demonstrated experience in welding, sheet metal fabrication, and HVAC duct installation.
• Proficiency in MIG, TIG, FCAW, and SMAW welding techniques.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, duct layouts, technical drawings, and fabrication specifications.
• Experience fabricating and installing rectangular and round ductwork, fittings, transitions, and plenums.
• Skilled in measuring, layout, cutting, forming, fitting, and assembling sheet metal.
• Familiarity with sheet metal fabrication equipment, precision measuring instruments, power tools, and hand tools.
• Working knowledge of applicable AWS standards and safe shop and construction practices.
• Strong attention to detail, dependable work habits, and the ability to collaborate with a team.
