The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre (Peter Mac) is a Victorian public health service and a world-leading comprehensive cancer centre, dedicated to excellence across all spheres of clinical care, research and education. We are home to the largest cancer research enterprise in Australia and provide treatment to around 40,000 people with cancer each year. Welcoming staff from diverse backgrounds and experiences is integral to fostering innovation and compassion, and delivering the best possible cancer care for our patients.

About the team

The Peter Mac Patient Experience and Wellbeing Department manages a range of high-impact work in three streams: patient experience, consumer engagement, and wellbeing. We are a diverse and motivated team that shares a goal of improving the care experience of people with cancer. This role sits within the wellbeing workstream. The Wellbeing Centre is a welcoming and calm space for patients, carers, and visitors to relax and connect. It was 170+ visitors per day, and is the physical entry point to our wellbeing programs.

About the role

This role makes a meaningful difference to cancer patients and their carers every single day. In this role you will coordinate the daily operations of our Wellbeing Centre, wellbeing programs, and wellbeing events. You will have regular interaction with patients and carers, ensuring they have a positive experience and acting as an escalation point for any issues. Working closely with staff and volunteers, you will coordinate multiple wellbeing programs from planning through to promotion, delivery, and evaluation.

A regular day will see you:

  • Open and close the Wellbeing Centre, maintaining the physical environment to an exceptionally high standard
  • Respond to patient and carer enquiries via phone, email or in-person, working with them to navigate wellbeing services
  • Have light-hearted, tough and at times emotionally sensitive conversations with wellbeing centre visitors, many of whom you’ll get to know quite well
  • Coordinate staff and volunteers involved in our wellbeing programs
  • Prepare and distribute communications materials about our wellbeing services, including  digital newsletters, websites and printed materials

About you

We are looking for a warm and approachable professional who thrives on connecting with people and delivering exceptional customer service. You can build rapport with visitors while effectively managing administrative responsibilities in a busy environment. You can write communications materials well, and enjoy working with others to solve problems.

You’ll bring with you:

  • Highly developed interpersonal communication skills, including with vulnerable people on sensitive issues
  • Outstanding prioritisation and time management skills, seeing multiple concurrent tasks through to completion
  • An understanding of the healthcare environment, including risk identification and escalation
  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams

Our benefits

We offer a range of benefits which support our people both personally and professionally, including:

  • Up to $11,660 in salary packaging to increase your take home pay
  • Discounted health insurance and eye care
  • A comprehensive health and wellbeing program
  • Public transport options at our doorstep and end of journey facilities for cyclists
  • Onsite eateries and coffee shops and inviting rooftop garden spaces
  • Pathways for professional development and new career opportunities
  • Five weeks annual leave (pro-rata for part time) and 17.5% leave loading
