Job Description

COME JOIN OUR TEAM!

Boys & Girls Club of Greater Shasta is hiring a Front Desk Coordinator for our Weed Elementary School Club!

We're looking for a friendly, dependable, and confident individual who enjoys working with people and can help keep our busy afterschool program safe, organized, and welcoming.

As the first point of contact for many of our families, you'll play an important role in creating a positive experience for parents and members while helping our team maintain safe and consistent check-out procedures.

This is a great opportunity for someone with strong people skills, excellent communication, and the ability to stay calm, professional, and organized in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome parents, members, and visitors and help create a friendly, positive Club environment.
  • Manage daily member check-in and check-out, ensuring all established safety and authorized pickup procedures are followed.
  • Get to know Club members and families, learning and remembering names and faces to build positive relationships and support a welcoming pickup experience.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for families during afternoon pickup, answering questions and helping address concerns.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with parents, including during difficult conversations or when addressing frustrations, concerns, or misunderstandings.
  • Help uphold Club rules and expectations with both members and families, consistently reinforcing policies and procedures in a positive, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Confidently and respectfully reinforce Club policies, set appropriate boundaries, and provide reminders when necessary.
  • Use two-way radios to communicate efficiently with program staff, coordinate member pickups, and share important information.
  • Maintain excellent radio etiquette, including clear, concise, and timely communication.
  • Keep accurate attendance and check-out records and assist with basic administrative tasks.
  • Work closely with site leadership to communicate concerns, support daily operations, and identify situations requiring additional assistance.
  • Maintain an organized, safe, and welcoming check-out area.
  • Assist with light program support or other site needs when front desk responsibilities allow.

Qualifications & Ideal Candidate

  • Exceptional people skills: Friendly, approachable, respectful, and comfortable communicating with a wide variety of personalities.
  • Strong communication and conflict-resolution skills: Able to navigate sensitive situations, respond to frustrated individuals, and de-escalate tense interactions with patience, professionalism, and good judgment.
  • Confident and consistent: Comfortable setting appropriate boundaries, reinforcing expectations, and respectfully addressing situations where members or parents may not be following Club rules.
  • Strong memory for names and faces: Able to quickly learn and recognize Club members, families, and regular visitors while consistently following authorized pickup verification procedures.
  • Excellent radio communication: Able to listen carefully, communicate clearly and concisely, and use two-way radios effectively in a busy environment. Training on Club-specific protocols will be provided.
  • Calm under pressure: Able to remain composed, attentive, and solutions-focused during busy pickup periods or unexpected situations.
  • Organized and detail-oriented: Able to multitask while maintaining accurate records and prioritizing member safety.
  • Reliable and dependable: Consistent attendance, punctuality, and availability during scheduled afternoon hours are essential.
  • Positive and team-oriented: Willing to collaborate, communicate openly, and support fellow staff members.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Experience in customer service, reception, schools, childcare, or other public-facing positions is a plus, particularly roles involving high-volume interactions or conflict resolution.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This is not a traditional sit-down desk job!

Our Weed Club serves TK–8th grade members in an active school environment, and afternoon pickup can be particularly busy.

This position involves:

  • Working outdoors for portions of the shift throughout the school year, including during colder temperatures and changing weather conditions such as rain, wind, and snow.
  • Standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Moving between indoor and outdoor spaces.
  • Working in a noisy, active environment.
  • Completing light cleaning and organization.
  • Lifting up to 25 pounds.

Most importantly, we're looking for someone who can balance being warm and welcoming with being confident and consistent. Member safety is always our priority, and our Front Desk Coordinator plays an important role in ensuring families follow established Club procedures.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Pay: $18.00 per hour
  • Hours: Approximately 15–20 hours per week
  • Days: Monday–Friday
  • Schedule: Afterschool hours, with an anticipated schedule of approximately 2:30–5:30 PM, depending on program needs
  • Location: Weed Elementary School, Weed, CA
