WFH Applications & Estimating Engineer

Job Overview

Our client is looking for an Applications & Estimating Engineer to convert customer RFQs into technically sound, commercially disciplined machine concepts and quotations. This role serves a primary mission of bridging initial customer requirements with actionable engineering estimates and custom automation solutions.

Schedule Monday - Friday, U.S. Central Time overlap (40 work hours per week)

Responsibilities

• Review RFQs, customer drawings, specifications, sample-part information, and production requirements.
• Develop preliminary machine concepts and sequence of operations for custom automation systems.
• Select major purchased components and identify required tooling, controls, safety systems, and outside services.
• Estimate engineering, machining, assembly, electrical, programming, installation, material, and subcontract costs.
• Prepare preliminary BOMs, labor estimates, schedules, assumptions, exclusions, and quotation packages.
• Coordinate with U.S. operations, machinists, and controls staff to validate manufacturability and delivery dates.
• Track estimated-versus-actual labor and material cost after project completion and improve estimating standards.
• Maintain reusable estimating templates, component-cost libraries, and historical job-cost data.
• Report regularly to the Operations Manager / President regarding project estimates and project feasibility.

Requirements

• Strong Excel and estimating skills with disciplined documentation.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and understand machining, pneumatics, sensors, servo systems, and machine safety at a practical level.
• Excellent technical communication skills for cross-coordination with U.S. operations and technical staff.

Qualifications

• Mechanical, manufacturing, mechatronics, or related engineering background.
• 3+ years of estimating or applications-engineering experience in automation, machinery, fixtures, tooling, or capital equipment.
