WFH E-Commerce Bookkeeper (Xero)

Job Overview

Our client is looking for an experienced and highly organized E-Commerce Bookkeeper (Xero) to take responsibility for day-to-day bookkeeping and ensure financial records are accurate, complete, and up to date.

The ideal candidate will be highly proficient in Xero and have strong practical bookkeeping experience within businesses operating across the UK and Europe. Experience with e-commerce and marketplace businesses would be particularly valuable. Our client is looking for someone who is hands-on, reliable, and methodical, with the ability to keep the books clean and accurate while spotting and resolving issues rather than simply processing transactions.

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM UK Time (40 work hours per week)

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate and timely bookkeeping records in Xero
• Manage accounts receivable, including customer account reconciliation, payment allocation, and monitoring outstanding balances
• Post and reconcile marketplace and e-commerce sales, including settlements, fees, refunds, and other deductions
• Perform regular bank, credit card, payment provider, and balance sheet reconciliations
• Check, process, and correctly code supplier invoices and credit notes
• Maintain accurate accounts payable and supplier ledgers
• Reconcile supplier and customer statements and investigate discrepancies
• Ensure transactions are correctly recorded for VAT and other applicable UK/European accounting requirements
• Assist with VAT reporting and provide accurate records to accountants/tax advisers where required
• Maintain supporting documentation and a clear audit trail for transactions
• Assist with month-end close, including reconciliations, accruals/prepayments, and identifying unusual or incorrect transactions
• Work with internal teams to resolve invoice, payment, and reconciliation queries
• Identify discrepancies or bookkeeping issues proactively and ensure they are resolved promptly

Requirements

• Strong Xero experience is essential
• Proven professional bookkeeping experience
• Good working knowledge of UK accounting and VAT, with experience of European transactions/accounting
• Experience with accounts receivable, accounts payable, and reconciliations
• Experience posting and reconciling marketplace/e-commerce sales is highly desirable
• Strong Excel/Google Sheets skills
• Excellent attention to detail and a high level of numerical accuracy
• Able to work independently, manage deadlines, and take ownership of the bookkeeping function
• Comfortable dealing with high transaction volumes and multiple currencies
