What they need
WHS Advisor
An established and growing civil infrastructure business is seeking a WHS Advisor to join its safety team and work alongside the WHS Manager.
This is an excellent opportunity for a practical, energetic safety professional who enjoys being out in the field, building relationships with operational crews and making a genuine impact on safety performance.
Working across significant road, asphalt and civil infrastructure projects throughout the Hunter, Central Coast, Mid North Coast and regional NSW, you will be part of a business delivering high-volume works for government, councils and major civil contractors.
The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the WHS Manager, you will provide hands-on safety and compliance support across a diverse portfolio of operational sites.
Rather than sitting behind a desk, you will spend much of your time working alongside crews, supervisors and other stakeholders in the field, conducting inspections, identifying risks, supporting compliance and helping ensure critical safety controls are consistently applied.
The nature of road construction means flexibility is essential. Approximately 70% of operational works occur at night, although this varies considerably depending on the project program, with some periods involving predominantly day work.
There will also be occasional weekend requirements, including approximately 10 Sunday shifts across the year, together with travel across project locations as operational needs change.
For someone who enjoys variety, autonomy and being close to operations, this is an opportunity to build significant experience across complex civil and road infrastructure environments.
Key Responsibilities
You will:
- Conduct site inspections, safety observations and compliance audits across road construction and asphalt operations.
- Monitor WHS requirements and critical risk controls across operational sites.
- Support compliance with Traffic Guidance Schemes, Traffic Control Plans and Road Occupancy Licence requirements.
- Monitor Workers on Foot controls, mobile plant interaction, exclusion zones and positive communication processes.
- Identify hazards and non-conformances and work with operational teams to implement corrective actions.
- Participate in incident investigations and follow-up activities.
- Prepare safety, audit and compliance reports.
- Support supervisors and crews in understanding and meeting company and client safety requirements.
- Build effective relationships with operational crews, supervisors, clients, auditors and council representatives.
- Coach and engage employees to promote a practical and positive safety culture.
About You
We are looking for someone who is adaptable, approachable and comfortable working in a changing operational environment.
You will bring:
- WHS qualifications
- Experience within WHS, civil construction, roadworks, infrastructure, traffic management or another operational environment.
- A practical understanding of workplace health and safety principles.
- Confidence engaging with frontline employees and operational leaders.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- The ability to identify an issue and have constructive conversations when standards are not being met.
- Strong attention to detail and reporting capability.
- The ability to work independently across multiple locations.
- A current unrestricted driver's licence.
- Flexibility around working hours, including night shift, occasional weekends and changing project requirements.
