What they need

The Rev. Bill Crews Foundation is one of Sydney's largest frontline charities and has been operating for 40 years.

Our mission is to provide assistance to address the cause and effect of homelessness and poverty faced by marginalised individuals. We succeed in achieving this through a combination of caring services including food provision, medical and social welfare and education.

We are seeking an experienced and proactive Work Health and Safety Coordinator to join our People & Culture team.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on WHS professional who enjoys taking ownership, improving systems and making a meaningful difference to workplace safety.

With WHS forming the primary focus of the position, you will be responsible for coordinating, implementing and continuously improving workplace safety systems and practices across our diverse operations. You will also support organisational Learning & Development ('L&D') initiatives and provide general People & Culture ('P&C') assistance as required.

Reporting to the Head of Business & Culture, you will work collaboratively with Managers and employees to strengthen our safety culture, support legislative compliance and contribute to the ongoing development of our workforce.

About the Role

Your key responsibilities will include:

Work Health and Safety

  • Implement, maintain and continuously improve WHS systems, policies, procedures and operational practices.
  • Conduct workplace inspections, risk assessments and safety reviews across multiple sites.
  • Identify workplace hazards, recommend practical risk controls and monitor corrective actions.
  • Coordinate incident reporting, investigations and preventative measures.
  • Maintain accurate WHS registers, risk assessments and compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate WHS Committee meetings, consultation activities and follow-up actions.
  • Provide practical WHS advice and guidance to Managers and employees.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen workplace safety practices and proactively implement improvements.
  • Support workers compensation and return-to-work processes in collaboration with relevant stakeholders.

Learning & Development

  • Coordinate organisational training, employee development and mandatory compliance requirements.
  • Administer and maintain the organisation's Learning Management System ('LMS').
  • Develop and maintain training modules, learning resources and employee guidance materials.
  • Monitor training completion, maintain accurate records and prepare compliance reports.
  • Work collaboratively with Managers to identify training needs and development opportunities.
  • Coordinate internal and external training activities and providers.

People & Culture Support

  • Provide general administrative and operational support across the P&C function when required.
  • Assist with recruitment, onboarding, probation and employee lifecycle processes.
  • Prepare and maintain employment documentation, records and correspondence.
  • Support broader P&C activities to ensure continuity of service across the team.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A Certificate IV or Diploma in WHS or an equivalent relevant qualification.
  • Demonstrated practical experience implementing, maintaining and improving WHS systems and processes.
  • Sound knowledge of Australian WHS legislation, regulations and Codes of Practice.
  • Experience conducting workplace inspections, risk assessments and supporting incident investigations.
  • The confidence to independently identify safety risks, recommend improvements and follow through on corrective actions.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of an organisation.
  • Experience coordinating employee training and administering an LMS or similar platform.
  • An understanding of general Human Resources ('HR') processes and the ability to provide operational support when required.
  • A proactive, practical and solutions-focused approach to workplace safety and continuous improvement.

Experience working across multiple sites or within the not-for-profit, community services, healthcare or education sectors would be highly regarded.
