This role offers the opportunity to work across a diverse range of wildlife and environmental projects throughout Central Queensland, supporting the delivery of practical, science-based solutions that balance conservation, community, and industry outcomes.

This is a field-based position suited to someone who enjoys working outdoors, is passionate about Australian fauna, and thrives in a dynamic environment. The role involves a mix of wildlife surveys, fauna management activities, stakeholder engagement, data collection, and project support. Travel, early starts, night work, and occasional weekend work may be required depending on project needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct wildlife monitoring, fauna surveys, trapping programs, and field assessments across a variety of habitats.
  • Assist with the implementation of wildlife management and pest animal control programs in accordance with permits, legislation, and animal welfare standards.
  • Collect, record, and manage field data using mobile applications, GPS units, and digital reporting systems.
  • Operate and maintain field equipment, vehicles, and traps safely and effectively.
  • Support ecological monitoring and environmental management projects for government, infrastructure, mining, and local government clients.
  • Engage professionally with landholders, contractors, clients, government representatives, and members of the public.
  • Assist with preparing field reports, risk assessments, and project documentation.
  • Adhere to all workplace health and safety requirements and environmental standards.

About You

We're looking for someone practical, adaptable, and committed to delivering high-quality environmental outcomes.

You will ideally have:

  • Experience in wildlife management, environmental fieldwork, conservation, ecology, pest management, or a related discipline.
  • Knowledge of Australian native fauna and wildlife handling practices.
  • Ability to work outdoors in challenging environments, including remote locations and varying weather conditions.
  • Strong observation and data collection skills with attention to detail.
  • Confidence working independently while also contributing positively to a team.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A current unrestricted Australian driver's licence and a positive driving record.
  • Physical capacity to undertake field work, including walking over uneven terrain and manual handling tasks.
  • A commitment to animal welfare, environmental stewardship, and workplace safety.

Desirable

  • Wildlife handling or fauna spotter-catcher experience.
  • Pest animal management experience.
  • 4WD competency and off-road driving experience.
  • First Aid certification.
  • Experience using GIS, GPS, or environmental data collection platforms.
  • Qualifications in Environmental Science, Ecology, Conservation, Natural Resource Management, Zoology, or a related field.
