What they need
🍷 Boutique Wine Bar & Retail Store Manager – Takapuna
Our boutique wine bar & store in Takapuna is up and running and building a following with the locals — now we're looking for a confident, wine-focused leader to take it to the next level. This is a role to step into, take real ownership of, and make your own: someone with the drive and the steady hand to keep it growing into a genuine local favourite.
This is the perfect opportunity for someone who loves wine, food and hospitality, enjoys a mix of day and night shifts, and excels in a role where every day is different.
Why you’ll love working with us
- Real autonomy – take genuine ownership of the venue, with room to shape the wine list, the events and the guest experience.
- Room to grow – we're a small, growing hospitality group, so there's real scope to progress.
- Expand your wine knowledge – learn or develop your wine knowledge through regular training, backed by a team that's genuinely passionate about wine.
- Meet the makers – get stuck into tastings and events with the winemakers and reps behind the bottles, not just textbook learning.
- Competitive pay
- A mix of day and night shifts – no endless late nights.
- A small, supportive team
- Great location – easy public transport access from the North Shore & CBD.
What you’ll be doing
- Running smooth, seamless operations across dine-in and retail service, and leading the team on the floor
- Delivering an exceptional customer experience – every guest, every time
- Managing daily service, staff and rosters to keep everything running on top of things
- Driving sales across both the bar and the retail store – and keeping stock, wastage and margins in check
- Curating and championing the wine list and retail range – putting your own stamp on what you pour and sell
- Hosting tastings, events and the occasional private function
- Coaching and developing your team – helping junior staff grow, not just directing them
- Looking after host responsibility and licensing as duty manager
- Creating a welcoming, vibrant atmosphere – and bringing your own personality to the role
What we’re looking for
- Strong knowledge of NZ and international wine and wine varieties (essential)
- Current Duty Manager's Licence (essential)
- Minimum 2 years' hospitality experience in a leadership or supervisory role
- A calm, positive operator who stays composed under pressure – confident running a busy service and problem-solving on the fly
- Strong communication skills and a genuine love for interacting with customers
- Comfortable with the retail side – confident recommending and selling bottles to take home, not just pouring by the glass
- Willing to work a mix of day, night and weekend shifts
If you’re a people-person who can juggle a wine list, a smile, and a busy shift without breaking a sweat, we want to hear from you.
