Wood Chips Procurement Head

Key Responsibilities

Procurement & Delivery Management

• Develop and execute the wood chips procurement plan based on customer demand to ensure materials are sourced and delivered on time, in full, with required quality, and in the most cost-effective manner.
• Create detailed procurement and delivery schedules, propose vessel demand plans, and monitor execution.
• Coordinate and resolve issues arising during procurement operations, supplier shipment, and delivery to the customer to ensure timely and accurate fulfillment.
• Monitor procurement progress and supplier shipping status; manage demurrage/dispatch settlement and handle returns/exchanges caused by quality or delivery issues in a timely manner.

Supplier Management

• Identify, develop, evaluate, and select qualified wood chips suppliers; establish and maintain strong supplier relationships.
• Lead supplier negotiations on pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and other commercial terms to control procurement costs.
• Conduct regular supplier performance reviews and agree on clear quality assurance arrangements with suppliers.

Cost Control & Process Optimization

• Track market movements through research and intelligence; apply sourcing comparison and professional negotiation strategies to effectively control total procurement costs.
• Optimize procurement and vessel demand planning processes; monitor customer demand and usage trends to improve trading efficiency and profitability.

Quality Control

• Establish and implement procedures for controlling the quality of procured wood chips.
• Inspect material quality, ensure compliance with company standards, and manage non-conforming materials.

Market Research & Channel Development

• Conduct regular and ad-hoc market research and intelligence gathering via various channels to stay informed on market pricing, supply trends, and competitor information.
• Explore new supplier sources and develop additional supplier channels.

Team Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Lead and coach the procurement team; assign daily tasks and monitor performance and completion.
• Collaborate closely with shipping/logistics and commercial teams to ensure supply and vessel demand plans align with customer requirements.
• Manage team operations and workflow to improve overall efficiency; provide training and performance evaluations to strengthen team capability.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree or above in Supply Chain Management, International Economics & Trade, Forestry Engineering, or related disciplines.
2. 8–10 years of solid experience in wood chips procurement within large manufacturing or trading companies.
3. Practical, resilient, hardworking, and willing to challenge the status quo.
4. Strong communication skills, team leadership capability, and ability to perform under pressure.
5. Excellent English (listening, speaking, reading, and writing); proficient in office software.
