What they need
MI, BI & Data Insight Consultant – Workforce Attrition & Retention
Outside IR35 | Remote UK | ASAP Start | Contract | Rate Negotiable
We’re looking for an experienced MI, BI & Data Insight Consultant to help a growing organisation tackle a significant workforce retention challenge.
The organisation recruits around 50 clinical professionals every week, yet a substantial proportion leave within their first three months. With recruitment volumes continuing to grow, the cost and operational impact of repeated hiring, onboarding and training are becoming increasingly significant.
The data needed to understand why is spread across multiple systems, including recruitment, HR and operational platforms. Previous attempts to identify patterns have struggled to gain traction, and the business needs someone who can bring structure, clarity and actionable insight to the problem.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of an open-ended, business-critical assignment: bringing fragmented data together, identifying the drivers of early attrition and helping the organisation make better-informed recruitment and retention decisions.
This is not simply a dashboard-building role. We need someone who can combine hands-on technical expertise with analytical thinking, business partnering and end-to-end delivery.
The Challenge
You will investigate why new starters leave, identify the characteristics and experiences associated with those who stay, and translate your findings into practical recommendations that improve recruitment targeting, onboarding and early-tenure support.
A particularly important part of the assignment will be analysing qualitative data, including free-text exit interviews and leaver feedback, alongside quantitative workforce and operational data to uncover meaningful patterns and potential root causes.
Key Responsibilities
- Define the approach: Work with stakeholders to establish key questions, hypotheses, success measures and a pragmatic delivery plan.
- Consolidate fragmented data: Bring together recruitment, HR, onboarding and operational data from multiple systems to create a reliable view of the employee journey from hire to exit.
- Diagnose attrition and retention: Analyse leavers and stayers by recruitment source, professional background, onboarding experience, team, tenure and performance to identify patterns and potential drivers of early attrition.
- Analyse qualitative feedback: Structure and interpret free-text exit interviews, employee feedback and survey responses, combining qualitative findings with quantitative analysis to build a more complete picture.
- Generate actionable insight: Identify opportunities to improve candidate selection, recruitment targeting, onboarding and early-tenure support.
- Develop reporting and dashboards: Build clear, trusted MI and BI reporting using tools such as Power BI or Tableau, enabling recruitment, HR and operational leaders to monitor workforce trends.
- Manage delivery: Take ownership of the engagement, manage dependencies, maintain momentum and communicate progress and findings clearly to stakeholders.
- Document and hand over: Ensure analytical methods, data definitions, findings and reporting are documented so the organisation can sustain the solution beyond the contract.
Essential Experience
This assignment requires a very specific combination of experience. Candidates must be able to demonstrate:
- Strong, hands-on experience in Management Information (MI), Business Intelligence (BI) and data insight .
- Proven experience diagnosing workforce attrition, employee turnover or retention challenges.
- People analytics, workforce planning, recruitment operations or talent acquisition analytics.
- Experience with applicant tracking systems and HR information systems.
- Experience working in high-turnover, high-volume recruitment or workforce environments , such as contact centres, retail, hospitality, logistics, social care, healthcare or business process outsourcing.
- Demonstrable experience analysing qualitative, free-text data , particularly exit interviews, leaver feedback, employee surveys or similar sources, to identify themes and patterns.
- Strong technical capability in SQL or equivalent data querying techniques, alongside Power BI, Tableau or comparable BI tools.
- Experience integrating and analysing data from multiple, disconnected systems.
- Strong business analysis skills, with the ability to define an ambiguous problem, develop hypotheses and translate findings into practical recommendations.
- Proven ability to manage stakeholders and deliver analytical projects independently, from initial scoping through to implementation and handover.
- Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to present findings and recommendations to senior, non-technical stakeholders.
Contract Details
- Contract: Initial three-month engagement, with a view to extend
